Well I am in the process of switching my 6 month old from Nutrimigen to GentleEase formula, which has a little milk in it. I started Sunday and she has been doing great, good bowel movements, no rash, but a few days ago she started getting stuffy and congested in her chest. I took her to the doc and she told me she has allergies and we started her on a nebulizer once a day. My older daughter has to do this usually once a year too for her allergies.
My question is, could if be an allergy from the milk based formula? My doc so not likely but I wonder if she can react to an outdoor allergy like this why couldn't she react to a milk allergy like this? Just looking for some opinions on what other moms would do. Right now my plan is to do the treatments and keep her on the milk based formula and if it doesn't clear up then go back to old formula and see if that works. Do you think that is a good idea?
MDs don't tend to know much about nutrition. A nutrition book will tell you that milk is THE number one allergen. So I'd suspect it.
I recommend that you take her to see an acupuncturist trained in NAET or AAT. They can help you determine and correct whatever she is reacting to. Milk can cause other allergies to flare up. Change her back to a non milk based formula. She doesn't need the dairy anyway. see NotMilk.com
I agree with your doctors, I've never heard of milk allergies like that before (though I'm not an MD). It very well could just be allergies-- they are VERY bad right now.
My son is lactose intolerant and has indigestion problems when it comes to the milks. He couldn't tolerate milk based formulas and would get severe gas/constipation and then almost opposite with regular cows milk and had diarrhea/severe gas.
I would at least do the 2 week course, but I don't see why the need for the switch anyway. My son stayed on the same formula for the year until switching to lactose free milk.

Switching back cannot hurt, but most milk allergy reactions are digestonal not reactive airway. Seasonal allergies are notmally airway.
You could ask the doctor to run a blood panel the next time to narrow down what the allergies are.
I'd say it isn't a milk allergy because she isn't having digestive issues. My 2nd grandson has a milk allergy (origionally diagnosed incorrectly as acid reflux). As an infant he threw up all the time, would avoid eatting when possible, and had issued with constipation.
Given the history of outdoor allergies with your older daughter I'd say the doctor is probably correct. Allergies do tend to run in families and fall is brutal for outdoor allergies.

It could very well be from the milk, but there are alot of items that can cause allergies. It could just be a coincidence. Why was your daughter on the Nutrimigen to begin with? There are natural ways to treat allergies. My son use to get ear infections all the time and right now it has been almost a year since his last one. Yes milk can cause that!!! My boys both have an allergy to milk. It will cause their sinuses to drain and give them sinus infections, ear infections and cause their asthma to flare up. With my boys it's not the lactose. It's the proteins. So they where not able to even drink the lactose free milks. They drink either soy, rice or almond milk. I know when my boys have had milk within about 24 hours even if they don't tell me cause usually they will end up in the ER with an ear infection.

My oldest did that at one year, when he switched to milk. My ped. told me to pull him off milk (surprisingly, they really do get enough calcium and such from food) until he was 2. I thought she was crazy. After 4 trips to her about his congestion, she said, "just try it for 2 weeks and see". So, I did.
WAS NEVER CONGESTED AGAIN. I am a believer. Do some research and just supplement w/ high calcium (green) foods when he gets there.
