Allergies? IBS?

My 2 1/2 year old son has had rancid very loose/stools basically since he started solids. He has maybe had 2 formed bm's his whole life. He has a peanut/tree nut allergy and can be very irritable. Has any one else out there had these symptoms with their kids. What was the cause/solution?

**I should have mentioned that I have met with his Pediatrician about this and we have an apt with a GI doctor coming up. He is growing and is not anemic. Because he his growing and is not dehydrated nor having major pains his pediatrician is not overly concerned, but does want him evaluated by the Gastroenterologist. He takes a multivitamin and probiotic every day and drinks a lot of fluids (no juice). I'm very strict about his sugar intake and I try to incorporate fruits and vegetables into every meal. He was tested for a peanut allergy when he was 2, but no other food allergies. He has never eaten nuts but does get horrible hives whenever he is exposed to to the oils.

What can I do next?

My doc told me to eat 100% bran cereal every morning for breakfast. I found ways to add it to stuff instead of just eating cereal.

He said it would absorb excess fluids and if it was dry it would draw fluids to it.

So basically the doc said the 100% bran would regulate the consistency of the poop.

Sounds like an imbalance to me. Aside from his irritability and his inability to metabolize certain foods, he's also got an absorption problem (taking in too few nutrients) and undoubtedly some inflammation. Inflammation is a part of the vast majority of diseases and conditions. Assuming that you have discussed all this with the pediatrician and nothing has been identified or resolved (short of some food elimination, which hasn't addressed the problem),maybe it's time for you to be looking into basic food science (to provide highly absorbable nutrition) and epigenetics (which is THE science of the 21st century and widely viewed as a far more effective alternative. By repairing the cells and getting them to perform their natural function, you can achieve amazing results. I've worked with hundreds of people with various "food allergies" which are often NOT true allergies and which can generally be eliminated or significantly reduced in a period of months. It's simple, it keeps you from spending your life reading labels and keeping your child out of birthday parties and restaurants, and it has zero side effects. Patented nutrition is a way to get something that's proven safe, effective and unique into our bodies.

I just went to another class yesterday on this. There were so many people there who've solved digestive issues (IBS, colitis, reflux, etc.) plus those with many food sensitivities who can eat pretty much anything. Even the most severe anaphylactic reactions have been mitigated to the point that no one is going to die if they are exposed to a food accidentally.

It's the fastest growing field of research and, while there are US patents in general and pediatric nutrition, it's more widely embraced in European nutrition conferences (perhaps because the American food industry is still so wrapped up in processed foods and GMO crops. We can debate the cause all day long - but the key is to focus on the results.

The pediatric formulas are used worldwide in some 350 feeding stations for severely compromised and malnourished kids, with astounding results. I have attended seminars with some of the physicians and many of the volunteers who have worked in these areas, and I have met with key food scientists.

Your child's problem is not unusual, not usually the sign of something sinister or life-threatening, and most likely not anything that can be addressed medically other than a lot of medication. If you'd like to learn more about nutritional approaches to healing, the info is out there.

Seriously, he's 2 1/2 and only had two bowel movements his entire life? You also say he has rancid, loose stools. Which is it? Perhaps you mean he has only had two firm bowel movements?

He needs to be seen by a pediatrician. What you describe is not healthy. Even if another mom's baby has had this experience the diagnosis for that child may be ddifferent than the diagnosis for your child. The only way you will know what is causing this and how to treat it is to take him to the doctor. I urge you to do this immediately. Your son may have something seriously wrong with him.

How do you know he has a peanut/nut allergy? If he was tested, what did the doctor say? If you haven't followed up with doctor, now is the time to do it.

BTW, I have a peanut allergy and IBS and do not have rancid smelling poops. Sonetimes they're loose. I've learned that many other foods to which I'm not allergic also cause gas and diarrhea. Some foods cause difficulties for many people only when they eat them. Beans/legumes are common for this. What does he eat? Even when one has conditions such as you describe the "cure" is a healthy diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, protein, fluids. Insufficent fiber will cause diarrhea. A doctor will be able to help you with diet as well as a diagnosis. First it's important to get a medical evaluation.

The GI should tell you all you need to know. He might have colitis.

Hi E.,

There is basically one thing going on here and that is he's malnourished. This was me when I was young. I had horrible allergies, diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis when I was a youngster and the pain and frustration made me a terribly grumpy kid sometimes. What I discovered when I was older and could do my own research was that I was not absorbing any nutrition and my body couldn't cope. I no longer have the UC and all my allergies are gone. I feel better at 56 than I did at 10...

You little one needs to be on an absorbable multivitamin. Most are not good and cause free radicals that make things worse so finding the right one is critical. His diet needs to be full of leafy vegetables and gluten free grains until things are better. He needs to be drinking lots of water, alkaline if you have access to it. A lot of his problems can stem from toxicity as well. This can come from a variety of sources. Detoxing your home as well as his body will do wonders. I know this probably sounds overwhelming but it's really not. Once you get the first piece of the puzzle the rest of the pieces start to fit. I'll be glad to let you pick my brain more if you have more questions. I've been there and I'm cured.

God bless,
M.

My older daughter is very allergic to corn and had a bad stomach for much of her younger years. I never had her tested for food allergies until she was in junior high school. We stopped feeding her corn and her stomach was much better.

Request more testing.

Hasn't he been going to the pediatrician? Not normal. Is he growing, meeting milestones. You need to see a gastro doc ASAP. If your ped is ok with this, you need a new pediatrician.

You say he doesn't drink any juice. So are his fluids only water and milk? Any juice-flavored "drinks" or beverages? Does he get any diet or sugarless products, like sugar-free treats or drinks, sweetened with anything ending in "itol", such as sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, erythritol?

I'd have him see a pediatric nutritionist. And in the meantime, there's a fairly simple, harmless thing you can try, especially since you say you feed him fruits and vegetables. Try eliminating all products containing apples, cherries, pears, and red or purple grapes. That includes any drinks containing any of those products, or the fruits themselves, or any applesauce, etc. And check the multivitamin and the probiotic labels too, for any apple, red/purple grape, cherry, pear, artificial sweeteners, anything ending in "itol".

Those fruits are natural sources of sorbitol, and in some children (and adults) sorbitol can produce some pretty uncomfortable digestive results. My daughter had a similar problem at that age and it turns out she is severely intolerant to sorbitol. So many things are sweetened with apple and pear juice, because they're cheap and sweet (like "kiwi-strawberry juice", where the first ingredient is apple juice, for example) And sorbitol is used as an artificial sweetener. It can affect different people different ways (constipation, very loose stools, it depends.

And by the way, green grapes are chemically different from red or purple, so 100% unsweetened white grape juice (which is fairly easy to find) is a good choice.

This is a pretty easy thing to try, so you might experiment. You'll have to really read labels, though!
