After Two Cycles of Clomid, Having Strange Results

Hi Moms. First a little about me. I was 36 when I had my first child (daughter) and 39 when I had a miscarriage during first trimester around 9-10 weeks. That was two years ago. For a long time, I had no interest in having another baby since it was very emotionally hard for us. However, we have been 'trying' for the last 6-8 months and for the last two months, have been seeing an OB/GYN who specializes in Infertility. After all the tests, he said he can't guarantee I will get pregnant but he can't say I won't, either. Last month I tried Clomid and responded very well with 3 eggs on the left, nothing on the right, however did not get pregnant. I did the ovulation tests and they were positive on ONE day, which was day 14. All other tests negative. This month, I've been positive 3 test days in a row. I wasn't able to have the ovarian scan this month since we are on vacation and out of state. I was wondering, has anyone had 3 positive days?? What does that mean?? And yes, they were VERY POSITIVE. I even used two different tests, Answer and ClearBlue. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks

What can I do next?

I'm not sure if Clomid is one of them. But some hormones can give you positives on Pregnancy test. So I'm not sure, but maybe the chlomid is causing the positive. I also went through infertility. I would be positive for ovulation for 6 days strait. So they don't work for everyone. Hang in there. I tried for about 4 yrs. I ended up going to Huntington Reproductive Center. Dr. Potter, and everyone there are amazing! And I have to beautiful boys. Life is good. And worth every hardship. Good Luck, Jennifer

I'm not sure what strange results of Clomid are, for I used it 28 years ago. Back then we didn't have the ovulation tests or ovarian scans, I just took my temp each morning before I got up, to determine basal and ovulating temperatures. After 11 months on Clomid, I chose to take a break from all that, and the worrying about it. In the 12th month I was pregnant with my beautiful son, and soon after had 2 more. The three are now 27, nearly 25, and 23.

I don't know if it was the Clomid or the "taking a break" that helped, but after 4 years of trying, we got 3 beautiful and healthy sons.

Hi M.,

I don't know much about Clomid, but I do know that as we get older, our bodies produce higher levels of hormones, because our ovaries get less responsive. As a result, the ovulation kits become less precise, and I'd guess that's why you got 3 positive reads.

I also recommed the "taking charge of your fertility book". it has lots of great info.

good luck!

Hi M.,
I've never dealt with infertility before, but I have heard that Clomid will make you ovulate but then cause trouble with conception. I suggest you get the book "Taking Control of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It's a book that explains natural family planning - you can use it to avoid or to schieve pregnancy. She talks about many couples who conceive after only one cycle of charting.
Good luck!

Just my opinion, but I'd consult an RE, not an OB/GYN. Patients using Clomid need to be monitored closely to see how many follicles they have. If you don't get the scan and have sex (and have 5, 6, 7+ follicles), are you prepared for the possibility of HOMs (high-order multiples)? Think "Jon and Kate Plus 8" or the McCaughey septuplets....and those are both pretty positive, yet rare, outcomes.

I took Clomid for a whole year when my husband and I couldn't get pregnant. My doctor prescribed it and we still couldn't get pregnant until we tried Artificial Insemination. After the second try we were pregnant. I remember reading "Taking Control of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Great book with a lot of information. More information than our OB/GYN who specializing in infertility could give me. I remember getting lots of "positives" for 2 days but they were the sign that we should be trying. I tried taking my temperature, charting, all that. It was all a great learning experience and I learned so much about my own body. The temperature taking told me when we should really be trying and my understanding was that it was a good idea to try up to 2 days before your actual ovulation took place. But in the end what obviously worked for us was the A.I. When our son was 6 months old, I became pregnant (naturally) with our second son.
Have you considered A.I? It's not as expensive as I.V.F. Ours was $400 each time. Good luck to you. There's a lot of options our there. You just need to find the one that works for you and your family. Good luck to you!
