Advice on Formula

My newborn is constipated. His pediatrician told me to put Karo syrup in his bottles, and if that didn't work to go to soy formula. Does anyone have any experience with soy? What did you have the best results from? (He's been on Enfamil Lipil). I was also told I could use generic as long as it contained DHA and ARA.

What can I do next?

soy actually makes constipation worse. Contact anybody that has any knowledge of herbs and they cringe at the fact that docs do this to kids. Enfamil Gentlease really helped with my sons colic..sue to constipation and gas.

I took pediatric glycerin suppositories (told by doc to do this) and place half way into rectum. Slowly work in and out a few times. I could make my son have a bowel movement on command. He would release gas, then have a bowel movement. Gross, I know, but I didn't care after the relief that he got!! I Swear by this!!

I used the Enfamil Lipil with my daughter too. When she was constipated I gave her about 2-3 oz. of part water and part prune juice.

My daughter will be one this weekend and we went through the same thing. I tried several formaulas before sticking with Nestle Goodstart, I know they are all alike but this is the only one that hasn't upset her stomach at all! It was a great find! We also used gas drops to help ease some of the pain, and some of it they'll just have to grow out off. They're so tiny it just takes their bodies a little while to get used to all the new things. Hope this helps!!

I disagree. Soy saved our lives. My daughter was so constipated she got hemorrhoids so bad she almost had to have surgery...as soon as we switched to soy...it was all over and she's been great ever since!

Hi H.!

I strongly recommend taking your baby to a chiropractor! It might sound strange if you've never considered it before but I swear by my chiropractor (who is also my boss.) I have a 7 month old and he gets adjusted at least 2 times a month. He gets adjusted more frequently if he is having any problems i.e. constipation, trouble sleeping, colic, ear infections. Just a couple weeks ago my baby was having problems with constipation and he got adjusted and went 5 times the next day! Chiropractic adjustments for infants is a gentle touching of the spine to make sure all vertebrae are in proper alignment! It sounds scary I know but I promise it isn't and you won't be disappointed. If you have ANY questions at all please let me know! Good luck to you!
