Advice on Buying a Mobile or Other Toy for Crib

Hi, I would like to find a toy for my daughter's crib. She is 4 months old and is having trouble falling asleep on her own. I have heard from other moms that the Fisher Price Aquarium is a good choice, but I wondered if anyone else can recommend a toy or mobile that their baby really seemed to like. Thank you!

What can I do next?

My son had it all, & he used the FP Flutterbye birds still...and he's 3.

Fisher Price Aquarium
Fisher Price Flutterbye Birds
Fisher Price mobile...don't know which one it is, but it has a light projection on it.

My son has always had, and still adores, his plain old Sassy Crib mirror. It's non-electronic so no need to worry about batteries, but provides hours of entertainment.

My son loves the Fisher Price crib toy that has birds fly around inside it. It also projects a picture show to music on the ceiling. He is 14 mo. old and still loves and uses it every night to fall asleep.

I'm going to second, third adn even FOURTH the suggestion for the crib aquarium. We had one... and unfortunately, it died... and we've purchased another.... and we just use it as a little timed music box to put our little guy back to sleep... he'll be 3 in July and he still loves to hear it before he falls asleep... I strongly suggest that... mobiles aren't as good because if your kiddo is anything like mine -- once he could stand up... he'll be pulling it down INTO his crib...and thus breaking it. :) (we went through TWO)

I'll make how ever many suggestions you need for the aquarium... it's awesome!!! I can't tell you how easy my son is at bedtime... and I can't tell you how many times I've heard the aquarium get turned on around 3 in the morning... yes, no crying, no screaming, he plays with it for a little bit then he's right back out.

Just plain old music worked best for my boys. We play the Baby Einstein Lullaby CD in their rooms and make is so it plays all night. It's very soothing to them. I found crib toys just stimulated them and the aquarium didn't play long enough (although that may have changed by now).

Good Luck!!

I'm not sure what brand it is because it was a present from my sister, but my daughter has a crib toy similar to the Fisher Price Aquarium, but is has a fairy in it that moves around and some little animals (I think!). Anyways, the great thing about it is that it has a big button down at her level that she is able to touch and make the music and lights turn on. I'm not sure if the Aquarium allows the child to turn the music on as well, but she learned very early on where to touch it so that her music would turn on. She loves the toy!

I agree with the fact that the mobile is cute...and that is about all. I also agree with everyone who said get the aquarium, or a close version. My son is 7 months old and he uses it everyday. Also, jsut so you know, we haven't had to change the batteries yet!!!

I would not suggest a traditional mobile. They are cute and that's about it... After having my daughter and working in a daycare, several moms agreed with me, they didn't really serve much purpose!

I would agree with the mobile idea and have heard great things about the aquarium as well. My daughter has a toy that used to play music and all and finally ran out of juice. But it did have other things on it and still turned on she pushed it so still served a purpose.

But in my experience, those things gave her something to play with and reason to keep her up. But the aquarium shouldn't be that problem until they are older... My neice uses it and has had it in her bed for over a year now so must not be a bad thing, I haven't specifically asked.

Good luck with your decision! Just be sure it is tied to the crib and is secure! SIDS is the real deal and you don't want to chance anything!!! :o)

All the best!
