Hi Mommas!

I am hoping that you guys can help me. I am in my last month and a half of pregnancy and am having horrible lower abdominal/ pelvic floor pain. My baby's head is and has been in my pelvis most of my pregnancy and seems to be getting lower as she gets bigger. As a result, walking and getting up from a seated position are extremely painful tasks.

I am wondering if any of you Momma's have experienced this and have suggestions on relief. My Doctor has mixed feelings on the support belts out there so I am wondering if this has helped you, what kind?

Thanks, in advance. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
N.

I gave birth to twins on October 26th, and went through the same thing. My girl's head was low in my pelvis for much of the pregnancy, and I was very uncomfortable. The maternity belt I used was two pieces and supported my lower back if I pulled it tight enough. But at the end I couldn't stand this for long, and reading another response it sounds like it may not be recommended. To be honest, I limited my activity as much as possible and found the least uncomfortable position at home, and always using the motorized wheelchairs at stores. After all of the postural changes of pregnancy, I had a C-section. The weakness in my core muscles and increased demands of lifting and bending has meant that the pain continued after I gave birth. Now that my babies are nearly 8 weeks old, I have finally sought out physical therapy to deal with my back pain. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this for all women post partum. I've had only two sessions and I'm already feeling MUCH BETTER. I know this doesn't specifically pertain to your question, but I wanted to share in case your pain doesn't go away after you give birth. Best wishes to you!

i experienced that excruciating pain too. i didnt use a belt but what helped me was to wear the maternity pants under my belly instead of over. dont know how feasible that is for you as mine was a summer pregnancy and just wore super long maternity shirts to keep everything covered. doctor suggested belt to but by the time pain got unbearable, i was in my last month and just dealt with the pain as best i could. congratulations, good luck, happy holidays and i feel your pain.

My midwife gave me a thick abdominal support belt when I was pregnant with my first. It was a post-surgical support and it worked great- I used it mainly when I was jogging but sometimes if I had to be on my feet for a long time also.

She was very big on wearing that when I needed to but also strengthening my lower back. You can do some crunches and reverse crunches. There are some pregnancy exercises like the cat stretch that you could google that also helped me a lot. Good luck!

I don't have an answer for you regarding the discomfort but thought I had read somewhere (in one of the million pregnancy books I got) that the support belts were fine until late in the pregnancy so I think you are too far along to use those because you have to pull them relatively tight to get any support and that would affect the blood circulation in your muscles....but I'm not a doc so good luck. Sorry to hear that you are suffering.
