A Pet Question....

The reason I am asking this on here is this is a family pet... our 5 month old kitty Bella. Here recently she has started acting strange. She is not spayed yet, because I have been told she has to be 6 months old. I am thinking she may be in heat, though. She has started rubbing her head on everything and making purry kitty noises (like Brrrr Brrrr). It is really cute, but when she started walking funny and sticking her butt in the air, I knew I needed a little more research into this. Does this sounds like a cat in heat?

And another thing, she is following my 10 year old son everywhere. She wants to rub on him and she will even get on the computer while he is on it and stick up her butt in his face. Usually she doesn't have anything to do with him. Does she sense he is male? I mean, what is up with this? Kinda weird. He is getting freaked out by it... because it embarrasses him mostly.

Anyway, sorry that was all crazy questioning. I am just curious. Is there something I can do to make her more comfortable until she can get spayed?

Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow, I did not know you could get them spayed so young. The reason I said 6 months is my sister's vet would not spay their cat until 6 months. They wouldn't do it any earlier. Well I will just have to call the vet tomorrow and see what I can come up with =)

Thanks for the responses. I know I am closing it early. =)

She might be getting bored. Many cats like getting the base of their tail scratched. when she is rubbing agaist you its because she wants a ttention or she is marking you. they have sent glands on the sides of their face.

Just so you know, you can get a cat spayed before 6 months. The vet I worked for would always do it after their last set of kitten shots which was about 16-20 weeks. Most animal shelters will do it at 8 weeks (that seems a little young to me though) That might change her behavior.
My cat, is male and fixed, does similar stuff. He comes up and rubs his butt and back leg against mine. It is almost like he is marking his territory without spraying. Maybe it is just a scent gland type of thing. I just push him away. Tell your son it just means the cat likes him.

Yeah she's in heat. I'm not sure about your cat with the son thing... if she hangs out with him when she's not in heat maybe it's just habitual to go to him. I don't really think there's anything you can do until she's spayed... geez I remember my cute little black cat when she wasn't spayed, she used to yowl friggin loud!

Please wait until after she is done being in heat. It's healthier for her and will cost less (most vets charge more for a spay if the animal is currently in heat). And no, she's not attracted to your son...when they get in heat, they are generally more affectionate.

I have three , 13 y/o cats which were found motherless in my backyard. I had them spayed/neutered at about three months! That is what I was told. Now things may have changed in 13 years, of course. But to answer your question, she probably is in heat. Cats mature early and females are sluts.

I'd get her neutered sooner rather than later. Don't let her outside either or you will have kittens to deal with. LOL

Some kitties love to have their backs scratched right above their tail. The rubbing against the legs is also common cat behavior - someone mentioned territory - your kitty is probably marking territory - your family belongs to her! She has scent glands around her face - nothing you can smell - but another animal could.

You can get your cat fixed around 10 weeks old!! Yes, she is coming into heat. Hopefully, she won't spray the walls. My parent's female kitten (they were told she was fixed!) did that.

ewwww she's in heat!! lol. i don't know why but i had a cat doing that one time and it so grossed me out...get her fixed asap. you can do it as soon as they are sexually mature - she obviously is! with animals just like people it can be at slightly different ages.

It sounds like you got your answer. Don't be surprised if she starts meowing very loudly too. Cats tend to display that they are in heat quite clearly. Most vets will tell you 4-6 months, 6 months or a little later is around when most dogs and cats come into heat for the first time, some of course are early. Giving a time frame makes it easier for many people to remember when to bring their pet back in after all of their vaccines. You can spay her while she is heat, but many vets will charge a little more since it is a messier procedure (everything is enlarged and there is more blood), so they may recommend waiting until she comes out of heat to spay her when it is easier on everyone. Either way she will recover quickly.

It sounds like she is in heat. I saw someone told you to wait until she is out of heat to get her spayed because it is cheaper. I just wanted to add that cats who are in heat and not bred can get a life threatening infection. My cat almost died because of this and the vet bills are way more expensive if this happens.
