Hello moms! Does anyone have any good resources, books, etc. on raising boys? I just found out that I am having a boy...I currently have a daughter, a sister, a ton of female cousins and I feel a little "unprepared" for the little man who will soon come into my life. I don't mean to be sexist...I just want to be the best mom I can be! Something that addresses infant stages as well would be great! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Having a boy is wonderful! You won't believe how awesome the bond is!

The 2 books I love, ironically, share the same title. One is a collection of "boy" stories from pregnancy through the teen years. It's called "It;s a Boy: Women writers on raising sons" This is one of those 'made me laugh, made me cry' types but not in the typical "Chicken Soup" way. Love it!! It's edited by Andrea J. Buchanan

The other is titled "It's a Boy: Understanding your son's development from birth through age 18" authored by Michael Thompson. This is a more 'nuts and bolts' book with a lot of information regarding the psychological and emotional differences between girls and boys and really does a good job explaining "typical" boy behavior.

Best of luck with your pregnancy!

Hi - I felt like this with my son. I am one of three girls and there was only one boy among all my cousins. I was terrified that I was not going to be a good mom to a little boy, and that my little boy would only want to hang out with his Dad. I looked for books and couldnt find anything, so I just started asking people, who had baby boys, and I found that to be a great resource.

I dont have a girl, so I dont know what it is like to have one, but what I can say is little boys LOVE thier mommies. They are so much fun and they love to explore. They are extremely active and it is so neat to watch thier little brains figure things out. I think you will figure everything out very quickly so I wouldnt worry about feeling unprepared. They show you the ropes. Congrats on having a little boy. You will absolutely love it.

I would advise you to start researching circumcision to decide if that's something you want to do or not- the rate is about 50/50 noe in the US. As for everything else- you can figure it out as you go. I have two girls and one boy and his personality is totally different than my girls- laid back, loves to fiddle with things and is very busy, sensitive, and likes to clown around. A lot of fun!

I do not have any books to suggest but don't get to hung up on the fact that he's a boy. Every child is different and you will love and get to know them all just the same. I have two girls and both of them are wonderful but very different. My first daughter the books on girls were probally written about her. My second daughter well the books on boys would have been written about her. She's full of energy and can not sit still even today at 17!!! I was always a tomboy so when my daughter became involved in dance and baton twirling I was at a lost. My husband can actually twirl the baton better then I can. Now if only she was interested in basketball or softball. Take the time to get to know your little guy and I am sure you will do great.

It may not help the first year, but I felt this book was just so helpful in understanding boys. It helps to explain brain development, energy level, and the emotions of boys. I thought it was fabulous!
