20 Weeks Pregnant W/ Lower Back/Hip Pain...Would You See a Chiropractor?

I am in my 20th week with my second pregnancy and am experiencing a constant pain in my lower back into my right buttock and hip. I sleep with a body pillow between my knees and ankles and have a soft mattress. I stretch and have been taking walks in the mornings to help strengthen and stretch out my back, legs, hips, etc. I feel great when I walk but the pain returns later that afternoon. I don't want to take Tylonal or any other meds for this because that will only mask the pain, not resolve it. My question is, would you or have you been to a chiropractor for this or something similar during your pregnancy? I have never been to a chiropractor and have no idea if this is something that they could help with. Also, if I did go, is it usually covered by insurance? If not, what do they charge?

Thanks for any advice you can give!

With my third pregnancy I developed SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction) and the pain was eventually unbearable! My dr said I had the worse case of it he'd ever seen. I mean, I was in a wheel chair and could hardly move at all without help by my 8th month. After alot of research to find the right one I went to a chiro in Euless ( Main Street Chiropractic www.mainstreetchiro.net ) and I walked out of his office on my own with no help! He was / is amazing! Me and my family still see him. I didn't have insurance that covered chiro care but his prices are very affordable... give them a call and tell them M. Parker sent you, he'll know who I am : )

Sounds like you may have some pressure on the sciatic nerve...Pregnancy hormones loosen the muscles in the hip area/ischial spine, allowing pressure against the nerves. A 'pregnancy-tailored' massage might be more helpful to you.
Things to Try:
1. Have your husband give you counter-pressure by pushing against your lower back while you're laying on your side.
2. Cool/warm packs against the lower back or groin area (not against your uterus).
2. Eat plenty of bananas (they help relieve muscle cramps).
3. Be sure to inform your OBGyn. (Rarely-lower back pain could be a sign of pre-term labor...but usually accompanied with spotting/bleeding)

Hello Leanne,

I got adjustments through both of my pregnancies. There are some adjustments and exercizes he can reommend. They also have equipment that you can use too. Get personal recommendations. The one I highly recommend is in North Dallas and it might be too far for you. PM me if you want his info.

about the pain returning in the afternoon... is it after you sit or sleep in a certain position? also, make sure your shoes are not worn out on the sides and that you're walking 'balanced' ...as much as you can, of course (smile)

Good luck! ~C.~
