How Do You Relieve Hip Pain During Pregnancy?

I am in my 24th week of my second pregnancy and have been having pain in my hips for several weeks. I did not experience this with my first pregnancy and am not sure how to relieve the pain. I try to stretch and I sleep with a pillow between my knees but I am still waking up in the middle of the night in pain and have to roll over to the other side or sometimes get up and walk around a bit. If anybody knows of any good stretches I can do or anything else that might help I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Thanks and God Bless!
A H

I had the same problem when I was pregnant with my twins and oh, do I feel your pain! During the day it felt like my hip was bruised and at night it was unbearable. We have a sleep # bed with a pillowtop mattress. My husband bought a thick foam pad for our bed. It isn't the egg crate kind. It's like the foam beds that you can buy but it is just a pad about 2 inches thick. I can't remember what it is called. A thicker pillow between your legs might help, too.

Hi there! I am 34 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy as well. I as well had never experienced hip pain in my first pregnancy! This time around was horrible!!I can barley stand it. Someone mentioned a massage therapist. I went to see one about 27 weeks along. Oh my did she do wonders!! Massage therapists cannot do very much when you are pregnant, but they can pin point the sore spots like your hip. I am less than 6 weeks from delivering and all my hip and joint pain are starting to come back again. Eigh......I hate this part. But I know that it is what comes with pregnancy, so I might as well enjoy it as this is my last one!! I hope you can find some relief. I know exactley what you are going through. Also, someone mentioned to me about a Chiropractor. I did see one at about 38 weeks with my first and he did help some with the pressure.

Good Luck,

B.

Might be that your sacrum is out of place. I visited Coppell Chiropractor and Wellness center and they accepted my insurance. I got my sacrum adjusted and a pregnancy massage for an hour. I was unable to walk for two days before finding them.

Depending on where you are in the metroplex, if you decide to pursue chiropractic care, you may want to check out Lifetime Family Wellness Center in Hurst. www.famiy-wellness.com
They are very gentle with pregnant mamas, and their care makes such a big difference. Their office is next door to a birth center, and most of the pregnant mamas from the birth center see them for care throughout their pregnancies. They are also Christians, if that makes any difference to you.
You can also go to www.icpa4kids.org to search for chiropractors trained specifically to treat pregnant women.

I saw a chiropractor for hip pain pretty much every week during the last 10-13 weeks of my pregnancy. He was a God Send! I'm not sure I would have survived without him or rather, husband may not have survived! I leave near Tyler - so I don't think I am close to your area. But when I was in Arlington, we saw a chiropractor there that was amazing and not the typical "snap, crackle and pop" chiro. A little different, but she was good. Her clinic is Health by Hands in Arlington. Dr. Kathi Maher is her name.

you could also try a physical therapist that specializes in womens health. i recently visited one for lingering groin, back and hip problems from my pregnancy 9 months ago and she did me wonders. i know of two: cynthia Ashby, PT at Core specialized physical therapy at Craig Ranch in Mckinney and Joan Firra, PT in Lake Highlands. I saw Cynthia because my insurance wasn't covered at either office and cynthia was less expensive for cash pay.
