My son had a 2VC and came out completely healthy. What it means is that there is supposed to be 1 vein/artery going in and 2 vein/arteries going out and the second one is collapsed. I would joke that I broke my baby's trash can.

There is alot of scary information out there regarding 2VC babies so I actually had my husband read the internet information and filter for me since I was too worried. In talking with the health professionals it appears that much of the research is out of date and plenty of 2VC babies are born without any trouble like my son. I had to get extra Level 2 sonograms and so that they could monitor his growth and so forth and a echocardiogram sonogram to check his heart but that was it. In addition they would not let me go past my due date, but I got some inducing massages and he came out right on time. I was even able to have the natural childbirth I wanted with hypnobirthing. They just kept an eye on his heart rate because of the 2VC.

Bottom line I hear there are plently of 2VC babies born healthy so I wish you the same blessings.

do you have an obstetrician(ob/gyn doctor) as well as a midwife? He or she should probably get involved and can explain everything to you. I had a different problem with my twins....one had a really thick cord with extra vessels, and one had a thin cord with 2 vessels. As a result one baby got more blood flow than the other, and grew faster. I think they would have to look at the cord itself by ultrasound, in your particular case, and see what is going on exactly. Stop reading articles on it, because every case is different and you don't have the medical expertise necessary to interpret these articles!! You're just worrying yourself unnecessarily, and that stress is not good for you or the baby. See your doctor asap and get him or her to further evaluate and explain it to you so you can fully understand your own situation!!

Let me know if you need me to recommend a doctor. I wish you and your family the very best!!

Hi J.!
I do not want to scare you, only share my experience. I had a two vessel cord with my daughter and she was born 2 months early ( but this was also after a serious car accident)
She was also born wiht a congential heart disease. She has had 3 major procedures including one open heart and she is and always has been an amazing incredible child .she is super happy and healthy at 3 years old now.I did not think any of this was related to the 2 vessel cord but someone else had posted questons about SUA ( single umbilical artery) which is the name of this, I believe.
and when I read the responses I was pretty amazed to see that there were others born ,premature ( but only about 5 weeks tops it seemed) and some with congential heart defects as well, but MOST were born on itme and perfectly normal.
What should happen is the midwife will send you for consistent ultrasounds to check the growth of the baby, just have them keep an eye on the heart as well.
I am sure your 3rd baby will be born happy healthy and on time!
listen to your body and take good care of yourself!
with love ,
S.
