Hi! My daughter's birthday is New Year's Eve. We are planning a bday party in the afternoon, followed by the grown-ups New Year's Eve party. Anyone have birthday theme ideas for this? I want it to be fun for all ages! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I started the party around 4 in the afternoon, did cake and presents around 5:30 when everyone had arrived and eaten, and those that had other plans left while the rest stayed! My daughter had a blast, and so did everyone else! The kids that came played hard in the backyard, and some even made it to the New Year! The grown-ups hung out and enjoyed themselves. I had a ton of food to last all night (thank goodness for crock pots!) I didn't really do a theme, just decorated for both! Thanks to all who responded! There were great and helpful ideas that I will probably keep in mind for the years to come!

One fun game I saw at birthday party was a board with everyone's baby pic on it. The hostess asked that everyone mail one to her before the party and then we got to play a fun game of "Whose that Baby?" It was really fun for the adults and even the older kids.

Try going to www.orientaltrading.com
They have a lot of party themes/things for parties for adults and children, and games and goody bag things, and TONS of things!
Good "bulk" prices too.

Good luck!

Every year my neighborhood throws a "NOON" years eve party for the kids. You can tailor this toward a b-day party instead?? We ring in the New Year at noon, ring bells blow noise makers, throw confetti, etc. This can be done in your back yard (if you have one) so it doesn't mess up the house. As for the Birthday, maybe you could then sing happy birthday, do a cake then send everyone packin' just in time for afternoon nap! Have everyone come at 11 to have lunch beforehand.(something quick and easy) We also do a parade just down the street after the noon thing, but I don't know if that will fit in with a 1 yr old party, depending on the age of your crowd)My son slept thru his entire 1 yr old party so you never know what's gonna happen!! :-) Have fun!

Speaking from experience, I think you might be a little overly ambitious thinking you are going to throw two parties in one day. If you have never thrown a child's birthday party before, then you have no idea how much is involved. You spend the whole morning running around trying to get everything cleaned, decorated, food cooked, cake picked up, etc. Then the party starts and it is 2-3 hours of fun and chaos. Afterward, the house looks like a bomb exploded in it, and everyone -- children and parents alike -- is exhausted! If you can turn around and host a second, adult themed party just hours later... then you're a better woman than me! Just food for thought. If you really want to throw an New Years Eve party, then you might consider having your daughter's birthday the week before or the week after. Good luck!

sesame street.

FYI you will be pooped. I had my sons bday party last week, and then had a handful of friends over that night-I couldn't wait for them to leave, I was so tired. And new years does not end early.

For my two kids 1st birthday parties, we did them at home and had a company come with 10 puppies (or small dogs). Do a search on the web for them on the west side. Everybody enjoyed it, kids and adults.

Oh, how exciting! I love parties. I have a little boy so this lets me think of the girly side of life. How about a princess/prince party! Everyone wears crowns or tiaras. This could carry on to the evening if everyone dresses up a little for the evening party. And should be somewhat easy with the new years top hats and tiaras they sell pre-packaged at party supply stores. Oh, have fun!

How about a Masquerade? It will be fun. Everyone will get to dress up and all the grown ups can participate and carry on the theme for the grown up party

How about doing Elmo and friends at a New Year's party? You could have a stuffed Elmo or Cookie Monster, etc., with a New Year's hat on, and then combine decorations, etc., and it would be fun for everyone.

How fun - a New Years baby!

combine 1st... your daughter's first birthday with the first place in the world to ring in the new. I googled it out of curiosity and found that Kiritimati, aka Christmas Island, in the Cook Islands rings in the new year first in the world. Around 10am on Dec. 31. Go with a polynesian theme. Plus in the winter everyone can use thoughts of warmer places.

There are a lot of good ideas here but if you are just looking for a theme you should go to your local party store. The big ones like Party City have a ton of stuff and themed products that can give you good ideas. I changed my son's theme when I went there to get a couple balloons... wish I had gone there first!

You could do a "Pretend MIdnight" during the kids party, at 1PM for example. You can do the big countdown, the noisemakers, confetti, sparkling apple cider, etc. This would probably be more fun if at least a few of the kids are older than one.
good luck!

Gosh, that is a lot to ask of a one year old to party all day! For one thing, the first birthday party is NOT for the one year old, the child would probably be happier reading a book with you than to have a WHOLE BUNCH of people in her face expecting her to be excited for a couple of hours. The first birthday party is for the parents and family to celebrate the precious life that you have been given.

First, make sure that there is at least one person who can attend to the needs of the birthday girl any time she needs food, nap, time to chill, etc. Have a bunch of open ended activities for the kids. Some kind of craft that will work for any age. Something that has worked great for us is decorating paper bags to be used for the pinata. Have lots of craft supplies, like stickers, crayons, feathers, pom-poms, etc. The big kids and little kids will enjoy this and then they get to put their treats inside.

have a fun party (s)!

HI, K.,

Oh, my! What a night to have a birthday. How do i know? My birthday is the same day. It's either going to be GREAT birthday/New Year's Eve OR A REAL DOUBLE BUMMER for your daughter. That's all I can say.

Always make her day special and just NOT New Year's Eve.

How about doing a little girl tea party, or depending on how old they are a bottle party might be more suitable. Then follow that up with an adult cocktail party. Or for the kids you could do a princess and prince party. You could get a castle jumper, crowns for the princes and tiaras for the little girls. I hope this helps. :)
