I have the same problem! i just got the nuby with a nipple, it's basically just a sippy cup with a bottle nipple. I'm hoping after that i can move to a regular sippy cup.

She will drink when she is thirsty. How many different kinds of sippy cups have you tried? We had to try several before we finally got one that our son liked.

If you let her have the bottle as an option, she will take it every time out of habit and comfort. It is painfully hard to not give in when they need something, but keeping her on a bottle at this age is probably does less for her well-being.

The sippy cup we had the easiest transition with was one of the Nuby's that looks like a bottle (soft rubbery tip). They have many kinds - our kids loved that one, but hated others).

You can also try offering her drinks with a straw. Drinking from the straw uses almost the same mechanisms as drinking from a bottle.

I have a friend who made the mistake of warming milk, and how has a kid who won't drink it unless it's warm (at 3 years old). Offering strawberry and chocolate just adds unnecessary calories and sugar.

We went cold turkey on the bottles at 12 months, and both kids did great.
Good luck!

Mix the milk with yogurt or buy the yogurt drinks. My son loves yogurt - it's actually how we got him to learn how to drink out of a sippy cup. Now we are trying to transtition him to drink more milk and come off of formula completely.

We take 1 yo baby yogurt and mix it with 1 to 1 1/2 cups of milk. Shake it up and you have to sippy cups full of yogurt/milk drink. And yogurt is great for kids! Study shows that kids that eat or drink a lot of yogurt consistently are sick 1/2 as often as those that don't eat yogurt. Good luck.

Our oldest did the same thing. Does she like cheeses and yogurt? That is another way of getting what she needs without milk. Does she like cereal with milk? Try smoothies- blend frozen friut with milk and yogurt. There's also fortified orange juice. She'll come around to milk.

My pedi said no milk is fine. My son refused to transition to milk after being breastfed. I asked the dr and he said not to worry if he's eating cheese and yogurt as well as taking his vitamin. He started to drink a glass of milk w/dinner around 2. He still doesn't ever ask for it. I myself am not a milk drinker neither is my husband.

Sadly, I have no great advice... but I can offer my sympathy as a Mom in the same position! You may want to ditch the bottle altogether to break that association; she may be more willing to try the sippy then (our doctor's advice). That hasn't been our experience, but it may work for you. We have tried every sippy cup on the market. She will drink her juice and water from anything, but she rejects the milk because it's not in her bottle (too smart). We threw out the bottles on her second birthday and supplement with other dairy sources. Toddlers are tough, and feeding in general is frustrating. As with veggies and new items, I keep putting the milk out there in hopes that she will eventually try it again. Meanwhile, she is very obviously healthy and thriving, so I'm not beating myself up about it just yet.

My son REFUSED to take anything other than his bottle! But when I gave him the 4oz cups with the handles and rubber tips he got more and more interested! Then I started putting milk in the sylicone tipped 8oz cups! Then eventually moved on to hard tipped! It gets easy afterthey except em!

Hi K. - My daughter is almost 28 months old and she still drinks her milk from a bottle on her own. All other liquids she drinks from a sippy or regular cup. I was trying to get her to stop the milk in a bottle via tricks and bribes but no go. I spoke w/ my pediatrician and he said it was fine as long as she kept drinking her milk. He said he wouldn't fight her as it's probably a comfort and the chances she'll still do this by the time she's ready for kindergarten are slim.

I haven't read what other moms have said to you on this topic but I know that when I posted the same question almost a year ago, there were some really harsh opinions. I was a bit offended/hurt at first but then when I spoke to my pediatrician, I felt much better. Point is, take everyone's opinion w/ a grain of salt...including mine.

I do think getting enough milk each day is more important than how she gets it in her tummy. Good luck!

we recently weened our daughter (now 20 months, then 18 months) off the bottle and now she drinks her milk from a sippy cup without a problem. We went cold turkey with the bottle, offering her only milk in a sippy cup (take'n toss cup...got princess cup & made a big deal about it being a special big girl cup)...per our pediatrician, we offered her nothing else to drink except milk (sounds mean, but she drank it when she was thirsty...we did this with our son too when he was that age). After 3 days she began to drink her milk from the sippy cup without any fights. Try not to go down the road of flavored milk except as a treat....too much sugar and unnecessary calories. Stay strong & don't give in. Good luck!
