Does Baby Einstein Rot Babies Brains???

Hi there, so my son started watching baby einstein at maybe 5 months old and LOVED it. He'd completely pay attention and we'd watch together for hours. We, of course, played as well and read a lot too. I thought it was good for him to watch this and now.... 5 years later..... I'm not so sure. He is SO smart, everyone including his teachers has always said so, definitley at the top of his class as far as academics go. But he has such a hard time concentrating, he gets distracted very easily, especially by the TV. But even in class they have...

Reading to 19 Month Old

I have a 19 month old son who is very busy and active. He is all over the place. I want to read to him on a regular basis but he seems to busy for it. He'll sit down for awhile and then jump up and run around. I have no problem with him staying in the room and playing around me as I read. But, I would really like some semblence of an attention on the book. Am I expecting too much too soon from him? Or do you have any tips for reading to a toddler?

Giving up Naps

My son will be 3 in October. A week or so ago he started climbing out of his crib repeatedly. We recognized that we were lucky to have the crib for him for so long and changed his crib to a toddler bed. However, now we are having extreme difficulty getting him to go to sleep. He is constantly out of bed. We have tried putting him back in without engaging him (which doesn't work because when he sees us coming he runs back in and then it is a game that he does over and over and over again). We have tried a positive motivation chart...

After School Schedule

Help! I need an after school schedule to follow- I have a 6 yr old that gets off the bus at 2:30 a 5 year old who I pick up at 12 or 1 from preschool and a 16 mos old. When they are all three home and the weather is not nice enough to go outside- they drive me crazy...I am unable to cook dinner b/c of the whining and following me around the 16 mos old stands at my feet as I'm trying to cook- crying and beggin for food ( we eat very early in my opinion too) by 5:30 most nights my 16 mos old is in bed by 6:30....I feel like if we had a...

My 14 Month Old Cries Every Time He Wakes Up

Every time my son wakes up, he cries. It can be first thing in the morning or even nap times. He sleeps in his crib in his own bedroom and I can hear him on the baby monitor. I hear stories about how mom's think it is cute how their kids at this age wake up and play for a while, but my son automatically starts crying. Once I pick him up, he is fine though. I don't understand why he cries instead of waking up and babbling or something. Is it time for a toddler bed where he can get out of the bed when he wakes up? That may not be the answer...

Baby Einstein Dvd's

I received several Baby Einstein DVD's as shower gifts. A friend recently told me that she read an article that Baby Einstein DVD's are not recommended. She couldn't remember why. Do you have any experience with the DVD's? Thanks!
