Hello ladies,

I am determined to get into better shape while I am off this summer and have decided to walk/jog on the treadmill for 30 minutes and do a workout video for 30 minutes or so.

Question is...do you have any suggestions for a good workout video that tones all those jiggly parts while at the same time being as fun as a workout can be?

So What Happened?

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I bought Jillian Michael's "No More Trouble Zones" and just today started my workout. I did treadmill for 40 minutes and then this video which was about 40 minutes. It certainly was eye-opening how out of shape I am. After the workout, the stretching cracked me up. I couldn't even hardly stretch, but it loosened up a bit. I got up and my legs felt like jello. I'm sure tomorrow I will be feeling it even more. I have a friend who will let me borrow TurboJam to try out since it's pricey. I will also probably get something else more upbeat and try to alternate them out. The one Jillian Michael that I bought is all mat work and it is a little boring. I need some upbeat music to get me going. Has anyone tried the "Dancing with the Stars" type exercise videos?

I use to do the Taebo video. I loved it. On top of that I would jog about 3 miles every other day.

I really liked the Jillian Michael's workout. It doesn't seem like much, but it gives you a total workout. If you have Time Warner there is Exercise on Demand and it is on there. Good Luck!

Hi H.,

I think the Denise Austin series is good or used to be. Gin Miller is good as well. I'm a personal trainer and work out of a private studio and teach aquatic exercise in my pool. A friend of mine and I are teaching some joint bootcamps this summer. Heres is the website if you are interested. www.bootcampaqua.com.

Good luck, I train quite a few teachers and they are looking forward to the break as well!

My husband purchased the P90X package. Get ripped in 90 days!
Talk about an a** kicking! Excuse my french but that is the only way to describe it!

Your husband may want to do the video with you. My husband really likes it.
There are several infomercials on this deal so you can watch to get a preview.

P90X has several DVD's to choose from. There is Yoga, cardio, targeted areas, etc. Something for everyone and impossible to get bored. Shorter videos and longer ones.
The instructor shows different levels from beginner to advanced.

Wii has something new out, a fitness video....and I believe you do NOT need to buy the $90 Wii board accessory to do it.

Also, go to Blockbuster and rent a few exercise videos (you can rent for $1 a day now) and see what you like before you buy a video at the store. And check ebay, tons of DVD's for super cheap.

I started Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred about a week ago. It consists of 3 20-minute workouts. I wore my heart rate monitor during workout 1 a few days ago and logged 400 calories burned for the 20 minutes. Pretty good bang for your buck. All you need is a little space, some hand weights, and a mat if you have hard floors.

I use to do the Tae-Bo tapes - these will work every muscle in your body.

If tapes bore you - sign up for a 3-4 stint with a cardio kickboxing class. I just joined one that is taught in a jujitsu facility and by a jujitsu instructor. Talk about a work out!

You know...I have Wii fit. My husband feel he needs to have the latest/greatest of all video gaming things...but for awhile I put my foot down on the Wii due to the expense...However, his tour in Afghanistan has been especially h*** o* him and I wanted him to have something to come home to that he would really look forward to...but with the expense I was not about to get it JUST for him...so I told him it would be our family christmas gift (2008) and that I would get him whatever game(s) he wanted, but I wanted the Wii fit and I wanted games for our kids.

I have to say...after spending $900 (initial investment for Wii, Wii Fit, extra controller, and 8 games to cover him and all our kids (we have 3) it has been worth every single penny.

Especially the Wii Fit...I have been doing it for a few weeks (had to have major surgery right after I got it, so ended up having to put off using it) and it is incredible...it's fun (the music is a little well not what you might want) but the exercises and games are GREAT...it's all about proper balance and posture to make sure that the workout is utilizing the appropriate muscles...once they have shown you what to do they put a window on the screen to show you where to keep your center of balance and many of the games require appropriate shifting of balance in order to accomplish the exercise...

I am telling you, it incredible...I hurt, but I can see my progress each day, I can tell when I slip up...it's a worthwhile investment...

Good Luck!...

Turbo Jam by Beachbody. They have some others that you might be interested in too. Just go to their website: www.beachbody.com
Turbo Jam is a little dancy, but it's mainly cardio kickboxing set to music that fits perfectly with the workout you are doing. It's a huge core workout and it is super fun. The longest dvd is about 45 minutes I think. Time flies when you are doing it because you are having fun.

TURBO JAM! I'm a Turbo Kick instructor. (Turbo Kick in the gym version on Turbo Jam.) I've been teaching for 4 years. I took Turbo Kick at 24 Hour Fitness for years before becoming an instructor. I LOVE IT...always fresh, new "rounds" come out every 2-3 months, and the music pumps it!!

I'd been using Wii Fit, but today, I bought EA Sports Active Personal Trainer (for Wii)...and I already like it so much more than Wii Fit. I never "sweated" with Wii Fit because it seemed to focus more on balance, but with this new game, there's gonna be some sweatin'...along with having lots of fun (Volleyball, Boxing, etc.)!!! It cost $59.99 (two months worth of gym fees), and I can already tell that it's worth it =).

I, too, am an elementary school teacher...and my goal this summer is to stick to my new workout regime and "diet" so much so that on my first day back at work, everybody will be in awe about how different (read: healthier) I look =)

If you have a wii system.... I have the my wii personal trainer its like any other wii game you purchase. I think it runs $37.00 it is the most awesome workout. It has a virtual trainer. and you input all your personal stats. and works at your physical fitness level and moves up when you are ready for the next level. After one week my sisters all noticed how lifted my tush got. I would recommend this 100% if you have a fitness ball, hand weights and stair stepper it helps. I have tried every thing out there so I had all these gadgets just sitting there. And I have used them more this past year than I ever had in the past eight years (or more) that they've been sitting there. I hope this helps. I also purchased the wii fit, but after purchasing this video, the kiddos are the ones using the wii fit. so it really is a great investment. good luck to all.

Turbo Jam is a blast! And, to top it off, Chalene Johnson (the trainer) is awesome at encouragement..... You really feel like she is speaking to you..... she has a way of making you WANT to do more and work harder. And, it's not like it's work....it's FUN!

I started with Tony Horton's 10-Minute Trainer and then after a month I moved to Turbo Jam. Now I kinda switch em up and move them around. The 10-Minute Trainer is AWESOME too. It's not us much "fun time" as Turbo Jam but I got AWESOME results in the first month (when I did ONLY 10-Minute Trainer).....moved from a size 12 to size 8 and even some of my size 6 clothes.

I totally recommend both of these systems.....

Jillilan Michaels Cardio Blast. It is 52 minutes long from beginning to end. The case states differenlty, but they do not include the warm up and cool down. I usually break it up into segments. Everyone once in a while I get crazy and do it all. A friend and I just meet at one of the parks and we use a portable DVD player while the kids play. I also have Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. It is a great video too. It has 3 25 minute workouts that combine cardio and strength.

Good luck with your work outs. Remeber to stick with things you like.

Hi H.,

Do you have AT & T for your television cable? I'm not sure if Time Warner offers this, but I was able to search "fitness" with my AT & T u-verse cable and found an awesome work-out, which I recorded. I now pull it up when I have time, and work out and truly SWEAT for about 40 minutes.... it truly works. Think that it is called "Celeb Workout" or something similar. Good luck!

Do you have Time Warner Cable? If you do check out exercise on demand. You will find everything from yoga to pilates, plus a lot of cardio. It's so awesome.. If you are not subscribed to that channel you should give Billy Blanks Tae-Bo a try. I can tell you right now that it's not fun. But if you do thirty minutes a day it will for sure get you in shape by the end of the summer. I lost 25 pounds in 3 months by walking and doing tae-bo. Eatting healthy of course is a requirement too. GOOD LUCK :)

I plan on working out as well.. I have cable, and I plan on using the DVR-- they have a fitness channel and you can pick from all kinds of stuff and they have different lengths of time as well.. I plan on starting it this evening. I have an 8 month old, and I need to lose 20 lbs!! I had too much fun eating while pregnant!! Since my husband was laid off, and I took a 20% paycut, I think this what is best for me that way I can save $$ not buying workout videos...Good luck to you!
