Workout Video Suggestions

Hello ladies,

I am determined to get into better shape while I am off this summer and have decided to walk/jog on the treadmill for 30 minutes and do a workout video for 30 minutes or so.

Question is...do you have any suggestions for a good workout video that tones all those jiggly parts while at the same time being as fun as a workout can be?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I bought Jillian Michael's "No More Trouble Zones" and just today started my workout. I did treadmill for 40 minutes and then this video which was about 40 minutes. It certainly was eye-opening how out of shape I am. After the workout, the stretching cracked me up. I couldn't even hardly stretch, but it loosened up a bit. I got up and my legs felt like jello. I'm sure tomorrow I will be feeling it even more. I have a friend who will let me borrow TurboJam to try out since it's pricey. I will also probably get something else more upbeat and try to alternate them out. The one Jillian Michael that I bought is all mat work and it is a little boring. I need some upbeat music to get me going. Has anyone tried the "Dancing with the Stars" type exercise videos?

I use to do the Taebo video. I loved it. On top of that I would jog about 3 miles every other day.

I really liked the Jillian Michael's workout. It doesn't seem like much, but it gives you a total workout. If you have Time Warner there is Exercise on Demand and it is on there. Good Luck!

Hi H.,

I think the Denise Austin series is good or used to be. Gin Miller is good as well. I'm a personal trainer and work out of a private studio and teach aquatic exercise in my pool. A friend of mine and I are teaching some joint bootcamps this summer. Heres is the website if you are interested. www.bootcampaqua.com.

Good luck, I train quite a few teachers and they are looking forward to the break as well!

Turbo Jam by Beachbody. They have some others that you might be interested in too. Just go to their website: www.beachbody.com
Turbo Jam is a little dancy, but it's mainly cardio kickboxing set to music that fits perfectly with the workout you are doing. It's a huge core workout and it is super fun. The longest dvd is about 45 minutes I think. Time flies when you are doing it because you are having fun.

You know...I have Wii fit. My husband feel he needs to have the latest/greatest of all video gaming things...but for awhile I put my foot down on the Wii due to the expense...However, his tour in Afghanistan has been especially hard on him and I wanted him to have something to come home to that he would really look forward to...but with the expense I was not about to get it JUST for him...so I told him it would be our family christmas gift (2008) and that I would get him whatever game(s) he wanted, but I wanted the Wii fit and I wanted games for our kids.

I have to say...after spending $900 (initial investment for Wii, Wii Fit, extra controller, and 8 games to cover him and all our kids (we have 3) it has been worth every single penny.

Especially the Wii Fit...I have been doing it for a few weeks (had to have major surgery right after I got it, so ended up having to put off using it) and it is incredible...it's fun (the music is a little well not what you might want) but the exercises and games are GREAT...it's all about proper balance and posture to make sure that the workout is utilizing the appropriate muscles...once they have shown you what to do they put a window on the screen to show you where to keep your center of balance and many of the games require appropriate shifting of balance in order to accomplish the exercise...

I am telling you, it incredible...I hurt, but I can see my progress each day, I can tell when I slip up...it's a worthwhile investment...

Good Luck!...

I use to do the Tae-Bo tapes - these will work every muscle in your body.

If tapes bore you - sign up for a 3-4 stint with a cardio kickboxing class. I just joined one that is taught in a jujitsu facility and by a jujitsu instructor. Talk about a work out!

I started Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred about a week ago. It consists of 3 20-minute workouts. I wore my heart rate monitor during workout 1 a few days ago and logged 400 calories burned for the 20 minutes. Pretty good bang for your buck. All you need is a little space, some hand weights, and a mat if you have hard floors.

Billy Blanks - Tae Bo is my all time favorite. It targets all the jiggly parts for sure.

Have a great summer!
