Where to Get My 6 Yr Olds Ears Pierced?

Hi Momma's,

My 6 yr old daughter says she is ready to get her ears pierced. I was wondering if any of you can recommend a great place to take her to have it done somewhere near Keller, NRH, area. My biggest concern is that she has tiny ear lobes and I'm afraid if they miss the target by a millimeter, they will forever mess her ears up. Also, how much pain can she expect?
Thanks in advance for your advise,
J.

The assistant manager at Claires in Southlake Town Center did a great job for my daughter. Very professional and careful about placing the earring. I wish I could remember her name, but hopefully there is only one assistant manager, so you could just ask for her. Good luck!

Claire's does piercing - Sweet and Sassy does - but they are more expensive. Many pediatricians do them in the office. My dd got hers done when she was 5 years old (about a year and half ago) at Claire's at Grapevine Mills - the manager who did it has lots of experience and did a really great job - my dd didn't even flinch! I wasn't sure I was ready to let her - she asked daily for almost a year - and she did great learning to take care of them! We have never had a problem with them at all.

My older daughter had hers done at Piercing Pagoda (East Coast) when she was 8 and also did excellent and never had any problems.

I would only do it IF she feels ready - I let my girls watch a few other people get their ears pierced first and they still wanted to go through with it.

I wouldn't get my child's ears pierced with a gun. They can't be sterilized, there's a large potential for error, and they crush the tissue while they pierce it. The earrings with backs don't allow for swelling and are hard to clean.

A reputable piercer will do a better job, with a sterile single-use needle, with much more precision. It hurts a lot less, too. They'll generally put in stainless hoops, so they can be spun to clean. Ask your friends with tattoos or body piercings- they'll be able to reccomend a good shop.

I've heard good things about Sweet and Sassy but our pediatrician's office also does piercing, not sure if they're open to the public on that or not. Kid Care Pediatrics in Keller & N. Ft. Worth. As far as pain it should be a quick hard pinch. Just make sure you're both really maintaining them to prevent infection - clean them daily and make sure they're getting turned to keep them from getting embedded. If you don't think she can be committed to maintaining them on a daily basis then tell her she's going to have to wait.

Clairs does it for free when you purchase the earrings. I got mine done at Walmart when I was 22 and they did a good job.

Call Sweet and Sassy to see if they pierce ears. I'm not sure that they do, but it sure would be a fun place to have them done if so. NorthEast Mall has a S&S.

I have heard they do a great job at Sweet and Sassy. There is one in the Northeast Mall and one in Southlake at the town square. It only hurts for a second. Good luck.

My husband was totally against getting my daughters' ears pierced until they were older, but I was torn, as I have pierced ears, love them, and find them cute on little girls as well.

However, after seeing a close friend and her 7 year old daughter go through a huge ordeal with them (infection, butterfly-back becoming embedded in the lobe, surgery with general anesthetic, over $1,000 in expenses, etc.) I now agree with my husband. All of this happened months after her piercing... not immediately afterwards. As much as my friend tried to do everything right (regular cleanings, hypoallergenic earrings, reputable ear piercer, etc.) kids really need to be old enough to take care of their ears and their own personal hygiene.

I wish you luck, but just wanted to warn you to be super diligent with cleaning and watching her ears.
