Where's My Refund?!

So, in checking my refund status (federal) on the Where's My Refund page of the IRS's website, it has said "Deposit Date - February 4, 2013) since last week. So okay...today IS February 4th, 2013, right?

Every year, they have always deposited on the day they said they would, but I don't remember if there's a time that they do it. I figured it would be there immediately this morning...does anyone know if they come in the afternoon?

Sorry to ask such a stupid question, but I've already been on hold for about two hours today (totally unrelated to this, with a different company...I am boiling) and I really don't feel like calling the IRS to ask such a stupid question.

Thanks, mamas!

So What Happened?

I shouldn't sound so desperate...it's not for bills...but I really was looking forward to shoe shopping today. Not even a luxury...I really need a new pair of sneakers! We are also ordering a bed frame, and I am very tired of having my mattress on the floor, so the sooner the better...

**I technically filed a month ago, because I'm self-employed and don't have to wait around for forms. They were accepted by the IRS awhile ago, and the first day that the Where's My Refund page went up, it listed my deposit date as February 4th. That's actually later than previous years...I usually get my return in January.

Oh well...maybe I'll call the bank. Thanks again!

Ahh...shoes. If I were a rich woman...ahh, shoes. There, I said it again. I do love shoes, as a matter of fact...but my only tennies have holes in the bottom and my snow boots are giving me a blister. My dress shoes have caused me to slip on this crazy ice TWICE this week (thanks to my extra...ahem...padding...no damage done) and I'm afraid to go outside! I never get to go shoe shopping anymore, so yes...I'm looking forward to it. It's been a few years since I bought a new pair of shoes.

Aileen...don't know why you removed your answer! It made me laugh, honestly. I didn't take offense.

***FINAL update...all day yesterday, the IRS website didn't update to say they had actually deposited the check. Upon checking this morning, it looks like they have made the deposit...bank doesn't show it yet, but then again, bank isn't open yet. So here's keeping my fingers crossed!! :)

Shoes, lol

The banks get wires all day long. They typically post the wires 2 times a day. Call the bank to see when they post the last wire. I bet if you get a female on the phone & tell her you need to go shoe shopping, she will see if the wire is in for you :)

Actually not a stupid question, it happens a lot, especially in years where there are retro tax changes like we had this year. This happened to me last year and I ended up calling the IRS to find the accurate date. It finally deposited three weeks late and if you called the number it still had the incorrect date after it deposited.

Call the IRS, it is the only way to get the correct date.

This is sssooo not a stupid question.

Yes, today is 2/4/13...unfortunately, your bank may be holding things up and it will be shown tomorrow.

If it's not there by Friday - I would be calling.

If I remember, it usually gets deposited at close of business. Sometime tonight. So when you wake up tomorrow it will be there. I could be wrong though. Ours is showing to deposit on the 7th...

um . . you really expected something from the government to go as planned?
I'd give it a week then if it's not in there I think there's a number you can call to get information on it. That's really the only way to track it , actually ask the IRS.

when did you file?

this year they made it so people couldnt file until 1/30 or 1/31 i forget because the standard deduction amount changed last minute...so perhaps the date was wrong assuming you return would be submitted before it actually was?

The IRS has delayed processing returns because of technical issues with a new law. We were told not to file until the first of February and so I'm surprised that you're getting a refund this quickly.

Since they say February 4, it'll be today but there is no way of knowing what time. I've had direct deposits from other sources and they've usually been accomplished by the end of the business day. Rarely has it been any earlier than the end of the day.

It all depends on when they process the refunds for that day. Depending on the timing, they may process it by Feb 4 afternoon, however you bank may not pick it up and clear everything for you until the next 1-2 business days.

I'm not looking for a refund or anything but I do a lot of Accounts Payable and Receivable via wire and ACH and it simply depends on when the bank deems close of business and when the initial payment was processed. That's way I always give about 3-5 days for something to post so nothing is ever late to my vendors.

The only thing that post "same day" immedately is an incoming or outgoing wire which you pay anywhere from $25 to $35 to send and another $12-$15 to receive the funds.

My best suggestion is to call the IRS and get an update.

They did this to me last year, and my refund actually took about 2 weeks longer than it was supposed to. I dont' know exactly why, it was being "processed" when I called them. They are having some issues this year as well, It might still be a while. Bummer huh? sorry. I know how you feel, when I get mine I get to get the creaks and thumps fixed in my car. Yippee!

The IRS started accepting refunds later than usual this year waiting for all of the last minute tax changes to get put in to place.

As to when it will show up in your account, that depends on your bank. I have one deposit that will show up as of 9a each time. I have another auto deposit that doesn't show up until 2p.

I just spoke with my accountant today and asked about the reported refund delays. He told me a sad tale about another client who filed an amended return in October and has yet to see a dime from the IRS. He is usually rather stoic and robotic over the phone, he got quite worked up and agitated discussing the pressures the IRS is putting on tax preparers this year.

I'm afraid those of us expecting a refund will all be waiting a little longer than usual this year. Hope you get your new shoes and bed frame quickly!!

Waiting for that refund is like watching water boil--seems to take forever. I have had my refund post the day after it was supposed to. Since they send it electronically, it depends on when your bank pulls it in. Hate waiting, especially when you need it to pay something. Or reward yourself.
