What's Your Experience at Atlantis Bahamas Resort? Recommendations?

Sorry, another vacation question!

Looking at Atlantis, or the Sheraton Nassau (non-Atlantis) for a late May vacation. There are so many good and bad reviews it's hard to figure out what the real deal is.

Has anyone been to either place recently? If your kid wasn't quite 48inches tall, did you still have fun? Is there still enough to do at Atlantis? If they're too short, is it better to not bother with Atlantis?

All stories of experience welcome. Thanks!

We went for Christmas 2007? So a few years ago and my kids were older so this may not be helpful to you. I personally didn't care for the Atlantis. I enjoy swimming, but Atlantis is nothing more than a huge water park and casino. My kids were 13 & 17 at the time and they thought it was fun, but it's not on their list to go back. The food and drink were very expensive.
And I really felt Nassau was really kinda dirty. I remember thinking I was thankful we were not staying within the city.
I can say, been there, done that, don't intend to go back.

We went to Atlantis when we were on the Disney Cruise (just there for the day). My kids were maybe 14 & 11 (??). Honestly I didn't like the heavy casino vibe.

If the weather's nice there are lots of water slides, and a very neat aquarium. Unfortunately it was too cold for us to enjoy the water fun (in March so unusual).

I'm not sure little kids would love it there, but in all fairness my kids weren't that small when we went.

I haven't gone, but my in-laws have and so have some friends. Neither couples enjoyed it. I hear a lot about the price-gouging ($10 for a bottle of water, for example). Our friends' kids enjoyed the slides for the first day, but by day 3, they were bored. They also agree that a beach in Florida will do just fine and for a fraction of the price. Hope this helps.

I just returned from the resort right next to Atlantis yesterday and was in Atlantis to check out the aquarium. Having not stayed there I can't speak of specifics, but I can tell you it is very expensive. Lots of stores...high end pricey ones that would suck my little one in and that we couldn't afford:). The aquarium was really cool, but the casino had a very strong presence. I also heard from many people, bahamians and other guests that it is very expensive once you get inside because it's the only one there like that so it has a monopoly. It os not all inclusive so I can imagine how expensive food, etc would be. If you are stuck on the Bahamas I would encourage you to look ar other options. There was a comfort suites on paradise island, we stayed at the riu palace which was all inclusive, a Sheraton was there also. I didn't think Nassau was bad at all, cabs were pretty easy to get, but their prices are not really regulated, so some can get high. The ocean was phenomenal and there are lots of excursions you can take...catamaran, jet skis, snorkeling, parasailing. Overall we had a great trip! Enjoy your vacation

OMG Atlantis is outrageously expensive. Everything there costs a fortune!
So IMO I would stay away from there.
