'What's with All the Hippie Stuff?!'

This is the question my husband asked me this morning. I was packing his lunch... dried banana chips, trail mix, pita and hummus, and fresh fruit, and seasame sticks... I had to laugh. It's totally what he WOULD define as hippie food. Then I was getting dressed, and I put on this tea length wrap around skirt my mom gave me (that she picked up in India when doing Peace Corp work foreverrr ago), and I laughed again... my husband would consider this 'hippie wear', HAHAHA!!

So, I'd like to kind of keep the joke going today... can anyone think of ways I can maybe dress the kids? Something to make for dinner? (NOT pot brownies, LOL!!)... I need hippie ideas just to bust his balls a bit ;) I want him to come home and think 'OMG, what's going on?!?!' HAHA!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Keep the suggestions coming, this is GREAT!! OMG I'm laughing my butt off right now, too funny, he's going to fall over ;)

We HAVE a lava lamp (HAHA!) and we went to Goodwill and found a few little things... afro wig, funny huge sunglasses, little (hand made looking) retro-y sundresses for the girls, and I found a pair of AWESOME knee socks and high waisted shorts!! HAHA! This is going to be so funny. I just have to wait for little man to wake up (he's sick, poor guy!) to get some stuff for dinner ;) I'm awful, this is so fun ;)

**face paint flowers/peace signs on their faces...arms...

***get lots of beads...have them wear them (or string some to wear...that will keep the olders busy)

****Have them all play with 'billowing' scarves

*****Have them make tamborines

******Download some peter paul and mary...Dylan...etc...teach them a few catchy tunes and/or have them cranked up when he comes home

Will ad more later if I think of it!!

Tofurkey dogs or Boca burgers for dinner. Make "goo" balls for dessert. Peanut butter, honey, and your fave cereal or granola all mixed up and rolled into balls. This is a very common "Lot" food at shows. Only theirs have pot in them. I bet the kids would love making them. If you have a sewing machine, stitch together some remnant fabric and make the girls patchwork skirts. Put a bandana on the baby's head. Dab a little patchouli on your wrists. Nothing says dirty, stinky, hippie like patchouli!
This is hilarious! Thanks for posting and let us know what you do!

My mom was the ultimate hippie. She was at Woodstock and everything. I have a family photo of us that might inspire you. Mom has a daisy in her long brown hair, parted in the middle with a shirt that looks like a scarf and bell bottoms. My brother has no shirt and bell bottoms, with long scraggly hair. My dad wearing a shirt with wide lapels, all open and gross. I was 4. I had a little sundress and sandals, with a peace sign drawn on my cheeck. We're all giving the peace sign and my mom is holding some wildflowers we picked for her. It's the definitive picture of a hippie family.

If you can get to the store, buy some beads to hang in the doorway.
Put cloth headbands on your lil girls. If you have anymore of those wrap around skirts, or something similar, fashion it into a dress for you girls.
Vege burgers for dinner??
Look on a vegan website for recipe ideas.
Put on some Grateful Dead or Hendrix for when he comes home

lol I love messing with husbands

This is hilarious!! Great suggestions. Lets us know what he says! How funny! I hope you all made danelion headbands today!

This makes me think of my sister. Her husband told her she doesnt get dressed up enough. So one day when he was at work, she put on one of her old prom dresses and got all done up and was sitting on the couch in one of her old 80's prom dresses when he got home. Too funny!

Oh "NO" pot brownies? I'm out then. ;)

I was thinking some do-rags or bandana headbands in the hair and if your girls have hair long enough for pig tails underneath. Tie dye is great but you may not have those resources on hand, but I did laugh out loud at the patchouli bit...so true!

I have not read the others posting...so bare with me if I sound like a record.

Beads...like door beads. You can pick them up at any craft store...or a party store...VERY HIPPIE

Dont wear your bra is another good one

MEAT loaf....but do it vegan style(to bring the nature freak outta the hippie).....Meat loaf was all the rage when my parents were growing up...My mom and dad are both REAL Hippies...so I have good reference.

Have your girls pick some flowers (Dandelions if they have too)and make necklaces outta them....

Put your lil guy in some beads.....as long as he doesnt stick um in his mouth.

This is something my hubby laughs at constantly! I am a hippie persons child through and through. So, my house sounds alot like your house!

Nag Champa and Patchouli oils will give it kinda that earth smell too.

Ok. I think that is all I can come up with off the top of my head....I will go slap my forehead going ''Why didnt I think of that'' reading other's posts.

Make a daisy or dandelion chain and wear it in your hair when he comes home.
Serve some salad with sprouts and sunflowers seeds sprinkled over the top.
Serve something with tofu in it for supper.
Burn a little incense in the house.
Get a mood lamp (I think they still sell them at Spencer's).
Install a bead curtain in a door way or around a window (Google it - there are lots of place to get them).
Get a DVD of 'Hair' and watch it together.
Play some sitar music.

Bwahaha! Whenever I talk to my family about my new natural find my brother shakes his head and says, "Hippie talk."
Get a lot of dandilions or daisys. Lots of tofu, incense, If you can find you some bell bottom pants that would be awesome! Fringe! Lots of fringe! Straighten your hair and put a band around your head, or make a daisy chain.
