My 15 month old has a rash. He had a similar rash a couple of months ago, I took him to the dr. and the dr. said it was a contact dermatitis rash- something that he touched caused the rash.. I think it was a lotion. So we stopped using the lotion.

Now he has a new rash. So something else is bothering his skin. I only use johnson and johnson bby wash... Is there something better to use on his skin??

He is 15 months old and i have been using the same soaps on him from birth.

All of my boys had sensitive skin and eczema. I found plain ivory soap works best. It's mild and doesnt' leave any residue. For lotion, I found Aveeno or Eucerin works best.

Also, my son scratches his rashes and breakouts to the point of bleeding. He has so many scratches, it's awful. I found medicated baby powder does wonders to sooth the irritation.

Good luck!

I would stay away from Johnson & Johnson because they contain petroleum compounds (processed from crude oil- yuck!) which can be very disturbing on baby (and adult!) skin. The Eucerin creams also contain petroleum- labeled as mineral oil or petrolatum. Also- avoid any that contain fragrance. I would try something like Avalon Organics Baby or NatureBest- both of which are sold at Babies R Us or Whole Foods and are priced similar to J&J. They are likely sold at alot of other places- but I haven't looked. They don't contain petroleum and aren't tested on animals!

Hi Lisa,

My son always had rashes from something or other....he has very sensitive skin and we use Aveeno products, they work great.

Aquaphor also make an ointment we use only in extreme cases, recommended by our pediatrician.

Hope this helps!

Johnson and Johnson products are actually pretty harsh.

Try Aveeno products (without sents or dyes) or Burts Bees or California Baby.

I use Aquaphore and Aveeno lotions.

My daughter has Excema and these products keep it under control. My Ped also recommended not using soap during most baths (except to wash hair).

One thing to remember with our little ones: They do not really get that dirty - except for the diaper area. (And this can be cleaned rather well in a change).

They do not need to be bathed daily - maybe once a week at the most as they need those protective skin oils their body makes.

Diet & Environment also play a factor.

Laundry detergent may be a culprit in addition to what is going on.

Something else to keep in mind: If you would not eat it~ Do not put it on your skin - especially your children's very sensitive skin as it takes only minutes (20 minutes at that) to absorb into their bodies.

A great moisturizer: cold pressed olive oil~ use it rather sparingly as it goes a long way, but it works wonders at giving your son a massage and a great bonding time for the both of you!

Hi Lisa,
My son and daughter went through the same thing. My son was worse. I took him to the doctor when he was a baby because his skin was super dry and it looked like he had scales all over his body. The doctor recommended Eurcerin (not sure of the spelling) but this works wonders. J&J was good but his skin would absorb it fast and then his skin became dry. I hopes this helps

My daughter is very sensitive also. I use Dove soap and lotion only on her. No more rashes.

When my son was younger I went through the same thing, I had to change detergent to All Clear or drift. Ivory soap or dove for his face and body. I only used a white wash cloth. I made sure I washed his clothes alone, and no dryer sheets.
