What Is Wrong with My Baby!!

My son is six months old and is crying and crying. He got his 6 month shots on Friday and has been fussy and had a fever since then. My parents got here on Wednesday and we have been really busy, so he got really tired because after his shots on Friday we were out and about and he did not sleep almost at all that day. So I was thinking that he was just over tired, and he has been sleeping pretty much all day today and his fever has beeen down for quite a while now but he is really fussy again. When he is asleep he sleeps well but when he is awake he is crying. He has always spit up alot, like for hours after he has eaten and it smells bad like vomit, but his Dr. has always said he is fine because he is growing fine. I think he must have acid reflux but I breastfeed and he still has a lot of tummy issues. Everything I have read says keep breastfeeding but I am not sure anymore because he is sooo uncomfortable. He has been in so much pain or just discomfort these past couple days I am not sure what to do anymore. Could it still be the shots, should I take him to another Pedi, or is he just a horrible teether, and it is just coincidence that it happened right after he got shots???? Please help if anyone has any idea what might be wrong with my baby.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well he is MUCH better now. I still do not know if it was the shots or a bug but he is so much better and acting like himself again!! Thanks for all the great advice and I think that I am going to cut breastfeeding a little short this time around and start to feed him some formula, I am going to go back to work soon so I was going to have to bottle feed soon anyways but the upset tummy has now kinda sealed the deal. Thanks for all the great help!!

One of my friends had this happen to her baby and come to find out that it was acid reflux. If the doctor says there is nothing wrong then I would go to another doctor and see what he says. If you live in denton then I know of some dr that are good. One is Dr. Schulman on scriputre and bonnie brae behind presbeystian hosptial and the other is in front of presbeystian hosptial, the building that sits beside it self. Dr. Amy Adams.

Hi,
I am no doctor, but I have done my researc on vaccines, I would probably say yes to your question. I nursed my two children as well, but have you tried supplementing just to see if it is something you are eating?? Just a thought. Go to this website....
www.nccn.net/~wwithin/vaccine.htm or www.chiropracticresearch.org/News_dangers_of_vaccine_pres...
or http://www.beinghealthynaturally.com/childrenbabyhealth/d...
I don't want to scare you but it is always good to make your OWN wise decisions of YOUR children. You know your child BEST, and know when he STARTED crying all the time. Go with your own gut feeling.

D.,
Have you thought about your baby having that stomach bug. It is supposed to be a 24 hour thing but my son had it for 3-4 days. The diarreah is what stayed longer. He did vomit. I had the bug and it makes your stomach hurt 24/7 so that could be why he is fussy. Another idea could be that his legs still hurt from the shot maybe really sore.

I breastfeed my three boys and girl and with my boys I had to change how I ate because something upset their stomach. With my oldest it was fish, I could not eat any fish, with my second it was to much fruit, and still with my third it was salsa...I love salsa. All that to say, perhaps try and pay attention to what you eat and his temperment and see if that helps...also, nothing wrong with mixing breast milk and formula, lastly, if your pedi is not help you solve your issue I say find one who will give you help and suggestions on how to make your baby more comfortable.

I agree with April. I don't know what it could be; so, call the Dr. He may have that stomach virus that's been floating around. It may be a combination of things- the shots, teething, reflux, virus. If you think he may have reflux, nurse him for less time, more frequently. See if that helps. After he nurses, sit him up on you for a bit so it will settle better in his tummy. Both my kids had it, and they both outgrew it, thankfully. I have it, as well, so I know how painful and icky it can feel.

Try rubbing his lower back some. He may have gas trapped, which feels like something is wringing out your guts. I sat my kids up on my let and put one arm across their chests (with that hand under their armpit) while rubbing their lower back with the other hand.

I hope he's feeling better soon. Poor little guy. Take care, and get lots of rest for the both of you, when you can.

Sounds like his tummy is real gassy. My youngest, now 4, had something similar. The doctor prescribed some drops for me to give him. I can't remember the name of them but they usually give them to colicky babies. It really worked...on the spot.

The over the counter baby drops for gas work too. Sorry, I can't remember the name for those either but I know they have them at Babies R Us and Target.

If I think of the names, I'll let you know.

Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Hi, i am a mother of 5 children, aging from 3 yrs to 17 yrs. There is a small possibility that the area he recieved the shots is still a little sore. On top of that he probably is teething, and it more than likely is not fun at all having the two coincide with each other. What ever you do though, do not stop breast feeding him!!!! I breast fed my youngest for 16 months, she does have some lactating issues, but is very healthy. Your breastmilk cannot be causing any feeding problems with him. Sometimes though, if you eat foods that tend to give you gas, he could get gas, and the same with spicey foods. If you are feeding him solids, you may want to stick to the traditional method of introducing one food at a time, and for a solid week each, i did have a child who had trouble digesting some of the foods at first. I hope this helps some, and by all means, if you feel you should change your pedi, do so, we all have that mothers intuition, and can feel when something is not right, or being treated correctly.

Good luck, and god bless,

R.

I don't really know what to tell you but trust your instict. This is your baby, and you know him better than anyone else. If you think something is wrong, take him to the Dr.

When my son got his four-month shots, he was the same way. He got them on Friday and on Saturday he started running a fever and had a fever for three full days. It definitely is a possible side effect of the shots. Don't hesitate to call your pedi, though, if you have any questions - that's what they're there for!

So sorry to hear about your baby! Haven't got a clue what's wrong, but I would definately take him in: call the pediatrician the very first thing in the morning (if he's fever is under control and safe tonight...if his fever spikes up or he starts vomiting, I'd take him to the hospital to be safe), tell the pediatrician what's going on and if it's unusual for him (sounds like it, or you wouldn't be worrying), and that you want them to check him out. Have you given him infant Tylenol? That always helped my son relax so he could sleep it off after the vaccines. But some babies have bad reactions to vaccines which is why if he was sick for more than a day, I'd be bringing him back to the pediatrician.
