My 7 Month Old Throws up like an Adult!

My daugher is almost 7 months old. Since January she has had 3 spells where she throws up like an adult. It's really scary because it's either immediately after she eats or when she's sleeping. She did it once when she was on her back and I thought she was going to drown in it. She also gets crazy fevers with it and has had a runny nose since she was born. The ER just tells me to give her pedialyte, but I don't think that is an answer. I understand babies get sick but this is out of control. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be. It's never constant just comes and goes for the last three months now. She was on Nutramigen and now refuses it and so I've got her on Similac Advance and breastmilk at night. One last thing...if it even matters she still has no teeth.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

I took her in to see her pediatrician (who is off post, we got lucky with that) and they diagnosed her with neumonia (probably spelled that wrong) and asmatic breathing because of all the rattling in her chest when she'd breath. They gave her two medications which seemed to be working great for a couple of days. However yesterday her nose turned back into a faucet, she's caughing so bad it's waking her up in the night, and she threw up twice yesterday. We are going into the pediatrician tomorrow for a follow up and I will address all these issues there. I just hope we can figure out what's wrong with her.

Do you have a regular pediatrician on base? If so, request for a referral to a pediatric gastroenterologist. If they don't have one, be persistent in getting a referral to an outside doctor. Usually CHAMPUS will pay a portion of the bill. Does her skin taste salty? If so, please e-mail me back at ____@____.com Luck and be persistent!

The teeth thing is OK - There is still time to get those teeth. However, one of the reasons she may be a little late in this area - maybe be because of lack of nutrition from throwing up. I do not know why she is throwing up - sorry.

As a health and wellness advisor - I would reccommend that you give her an infant multi.

Shaklee Corp. makes the best, Vita-Lea Infant Mix. Find out more at this link https://www.shaklee.net/ser/product/20073

My daughter had the same problem and she threw up so much and I didn't know what to do. The doctors told me to give her pedialyte to but then i noticed it wasn't working. I then thought maybe she's Lactose intollerant. I give her Lactose free infamil now she does just fine with it. I would recommend just giving her the lactose free formula and no breatmilk for about a week and see if that helps. Hope you try the formula and I hope it helps. It helped my little girl (Olivia)!

When my son was around the same age I had the same problem. The pedialite does work after a couple of days!

Sweetie, go get help for her. that is NOT right at all. Do all you can do to get her help. God Bless. please let me know what you find out. what area are you in?? maybe I can give you some good doctors names

There are several things it could be-
Acid Reflux
Allergies - They may or may not check for food allergies since she is so young
There is also a rare cell disease that starts with an "M" I can not think of the name of the top of my head.Something to do with the cells in the intestinal tract. It is not curable but totally treatable. Talk to your pediatrician, ER doctors are pretty useless when it comes to this kind of stuff- it always "the flu" Hope that helps!
And there is always the off chance of epilepsy but probably not in her case.

Possibly acid reflux? If you are concerned about her throwing up at night, buy one of those things that makes your baby sleep on her side.

Good luck,
D.

Hi ~ I was watching a show recently and the little girl been throwing up at night(sporadically) and then not remembering in the am it had happened ~ the parents went thru a long period of time trying to figure out what was going on and the Dr.'s were just treating it like it was food allergies and other things then possibly psychological, the whole gambit ~ anyway the episodes were getting worse and worse and finally the parents got into the hands of someone who was able to diagnose the problem ~ she was actually having seizures ~ it was some form of epilepsy and as you know seizures can manifest differently ~ I don't know if this is you daughter's problem but it might be an avenue worth checking into with specialists to save you a long frustration if it could be ~ Hope you find out C.

Hi, have you ever asked her doctor to check for lactose introlerance, she may be allergic to milk

jUST SOME SUGGESTIONS, THERE IS A FORMULA CALLED GENTLE LEASE THAT IS FOR BABIES WITH GASEOUS STOMACHS AND IT HAS WORKED WONDERS FOR MY GRAND BABY. IF SHE IS RUNNING FEVER WITH THIS KEEP AN EYE ON HER AND IF IT PERSISTS GET PERSISTANT WITH DOCTORS AND AS MY SON IN LAW WAS IN THE ARMY I KNOW THAT ARMY DOCTORS DON'T GET TO WORRIED ABOUT NORMAL SICKNESSES SO YOU MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE HER TO A REGULAR PEDIATRICIAN. ALSO YOU MIGHT TRY SITTING HER UP AT A 45 DEGREE LEVEL FOR ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES AFTER MEALS. BABIES CAN HAVE REFLUX ALSO.

Hi T.,

Whenever anyone vomits it just means that there is something in the stomach that the body doesn't want there. It is either bad food or it could be that the stomach needs to heal/settle from something it previously had in it. So, Ella is just telling you something. Listen to her. Don't just keep feeding her. Let her stomach rest. Wait until she is hungry again and then breastfeed her. Also, be very careful of what you're eating as that will enter into your breastmilk and affect her.
Formula is not good food for any child as it has ingredients that a 7-month old cannot digest. The Similac is probably what is causing her to projectile vomit.
