I have a question about what the typical rate is for childcare these days?
What is the price difference between in home daycare, daycare center, or a sahm who come's to your house? I'm inquiring about infant/toddler/school ager's and a typical full time rate. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi if you go to the Dakota County link:

http://www.co.dakota.mn.us/child_care/pdf/2006%20rates.pdf

it gives you a list of averages for different cities in Dakota county for both Centers and Home care.

I think it depends on your area but in Inver Grove Heights for in home is $135 but most are $145-160. There was one I found for $100 and the one I'm at is $120 all are weekly rates for one child. Daycare centers are way more like $200 a week or so in this area. I've never heard of SAHM coming to your home but a nanny that comes to your home is about the cost of a center per week if not more. If you do go with an at home provider I recommend contacting your county for a list of people and then do your interviews and then call for a background check on your top 3 or something. Most people I've ran across were not very good in certain areas. Typically the low rating was either complaints on diaper changing or with a punishment. JMO Good luck.

In my research I found that in home child care for full time was around $150/week and centers were $220/week and up. Infants cost more at centers due to the ratio - $250 and up. Some in homes and most centers give discounts for second, third children from the same family. Good luck!! I know how hard it is to find great care for kids!

My husband and I pay 213.00 a week!!! I know, I know it is so much- it is for Kinder Care in Bloomington. Our daughter is 5 months old and attends 5 days a week half days! Full days would be 281.00 as week. If you hear of any other daycares, of comproable care for less price PLEASE let me know!

I was quoted $286 a week for a childcare center in Eden Prairie (infant care). I got a very good Mommy vibe from the place and the teachers looked like they loved their job. I called Hennepin County to check out their history and they had a few complaints here and there but nothing major. The big thing was that they had a full review last month and NO citations were found-- which the licensing guy told me was very rare. I know that is expensive but the cost is worth the security.
