What Do You Know About sam-E or B Vitamins for Depression

Has anyone tried sam-E or B vitamins for mild depression in combination or separately? If so what kind of results have you had. Right now I am taking a very low dose of Lexapro and it is effective but I would like to find a natural product and I also suspect the Lexampro has made me gain weight and will not let me lose it no matter how hard I exercise and cut back on calories. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

sam-E has enabled me to go completely off medications for depression. I move the dose up or down (maximum 4 daily, 2 in the morning and 2 at night), depending on circumstances and how I feel. My sister, who has been hospitalized twice for clinical depression uses sam-e and has been stable now for several years. At one time I ordered a combo over the internet that combined vitamin B and sam-E and I really liked it, but I lost track of it, and just get plain sam-E now at Costco, and use the $7 coupons I get from Nature-Made to help save money. However, I do think the sam-E and vitamin B combo was a little better. I also take 3 capsules Omega 3 which is supposed to be great for mental health.

I have never had any side effects from the sam-E. You do have to be careful if you are bi-polar, since it can work so well you move into a "high." That happened to my brother-in-law, but they just started to monitor it more carefully.

Good luck. I strongly recommend sam-E!

I just read the other responses, and evidently those people do not understand that sam-E is NOT a medication, and is a natural substance that our bodies normally produce. The idea is that some people don't produce enough, or that they produce less with age. My depression began around your age. I always joked that I am bi-polar with just one mood swing! I was Ms Supermom-woman for 50 years (manic) and then am spending the last 50 years of my life in my depressive stage!

I took Prozac for anxiety/depression and finally wanted to try something natural. I took a b-12 shots weekly (can't say it did much), vitamin, herbs, neuro-feedback, acupunctures, hypnosis, without relief. I finally turned to a homeopath and it changed my life forever, I dare say I am on the path to cure. I was so astounded that I actually am in school now to become a homeopath myself and finishing my 2nd year. I can tell you this for sure It is the only thing that made a major difference. If it ever stops I wouldn't even bother with the supplements I'd just go back on the "Pills"...Good luck

Hi C.!

You're actually asking a question to which I have answers. B Vitamins are the mood vitamins (amongst other things). However, more would have to be looked at in order to give you a clear perspective of why you're depressed. (Even if you can't figure it out)

Check out my webiste and let me know if you are interested in working with me. Although my website is geared toward people who want to lose weight, I can also work with clients who want to work on other issues as well.

Hi C., I am 52 as well, and my advice to you is go on the enternet and look up natural cures for depression, some depression medications have suicidle thoughts side effects, cause that's really depressed, I take all natural flaxseed, and everyday I wake up I decide to have a good day and decide to be happy, I have bad/sad moments but not bad/sad days. Medications are dangerous and I believe they do more harm than good. J. L.

When I was 23 I took 5-HTP which is natural and that helped combat mild depression for me. I did not expect it to help but it really did. The B-vitamins have helped my brothers mild depression and ADD along with some other homeopathic vitamins and medicines that my Grandma sells. Best of luck, also diet plays a huge role, look into The Raw Food Detox Diet by Natalie Rose. I juice daily now, do yoga and have a healthy organic diet and have not had depression in over 5 years. You will find what works for you.

Check out a book called the mood cure. Many times depression can be resolved with specific amino acids. I've given this book to a couple of friends and it changed their lives.

Also, sam E works well, but you need a really good quality of it.

Good Luck
