What Do I Do with a Large Jar of Almond Butter?

I saw a month or so ago, on Dr.Oz show, that to help with insomnia, you should take a spoonful of almond butter before bed, as it will help regulate your insulin levels and help you fall asleep more easily. I suggested this to my father who has trouble sleeping. They bought the jar of almond butter, but have never used it. So they gave it to me, as it's just sitting there in their cabinet. I don't need it to help fall asleep - I have an active 3.5 yr old for that.

So -- what do I do with this jar of almond butter? Does anyone have a recipe for cookies or something? I looked on allrecipes.com but did not find any cookies for some reason, only one breakfast cake of which I don't have half the ingredients on their list. So I'm looking for more suggestions. We are not peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches people. We don't even purchase a loaf of bread each grocery trip. I welcome any and all suggestions though!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Nope, I've never tasted it before.
I do have a couple of recipes that call for regular peanutbutter, so perhaps I will try it out with almond butter. I didn't know if the two were equivalent in recipes or not.
Other than cookies, I just don't usually eat peanutbutter - not on celery nor apples. Sometimes when the mood strikes, I may do the pb and celery/apples, but it's a rare occasion.
I thank y'all for the smoothie suggestion. I don't make smoothies all the time, but will give it a go with the almond butter if indeed I like the taste of it.

Amy: I'll trade ya! We love sausage here!

I used to make my daughter peanut butter and almond butter sandwiches (just spread the almond butter over the peanut butter). When she was a toddler, I would mix the peanut and almond butter into cheerios and then make little cereal balls, then refrigerate to hold it together. She loved that and gobbled it up. Almond butter is very healthy with good heart healthy fats. It is also the kind of fat that is great for brain development in kids.

We use it instead of peanut butter and go through tons. I'll trade you for my sausage (sorry, pertains to my last question about a surplus of sausage we got). Spread it on bread and eat it (or give it away)

OR make "eyeballs" (my kids favorite)

You slice round cross sections of bananas, then place a little scoop of almond butter on each round banana slice with a spoon (sort of labor intensive but worth it) and then place a raisin in the center on top of each and serve up the the plate full of "eyeballs".

Or dip baby carrots in it or fill celery with it. If it's really natural it will need stirring because oil settles at top. Basically pretend it's peanut butter or give it away! It's VERY nutritious and not cheap.

If you make fruit/yogurt smoothies, add a tablespoon for more protein. Spread some on top of a banana or celery.

Oh, I just bought some almond butter and I love it! I don't have recipes for using it but I use it in place of peanut butter....spread it on apples, bread, crackers, or on a spoon right out of the jar! My sister bought some, tried it, and suggested I give it a try. I love this stuff!

Use it the same as peanut butter. It tastes great on toast. I especially like it with sliced apples, banana or celery. My favorite snack is a banana, some peanut or almond butter on top of it, a little honey, maple syrup or agave nevtar, and a sprinkle of sunflower seeds. Or you could add chocolate chips if you want a treat.
Other ideas- peanut butter cookies but use almond butter instead; also we eat Chinese chicken salad all the time here and make a peanut butter dressing for it that would taste similar with almond butter. Let me know if you want the recipe. That dressing is also good with noodles (Thai-inspired noodle dishes) or on stir fry. We actually use up a lot of peanut and almond butter that way because we eat a lot of stir fry. Or, just eat it by the spoonful (my favorite way! lol).
Oh, I second the smoothie idea too. I really like to throw 2 frozen bananas, 1/4 cup almond butter or peanut butter and 1 cup milk in the blender, it is a fabulous treat.

I love it too! Put it on apples, celery, toast, bagels, graham crackers. Or maybe throw it in a smoothie. It's great stuff!

Oh, I know what else I do with it. I make homemade granola bars (allrecipes has tons of recipes) and I throw some in there when I'm heating up the honey so it gets soft and stirrable.

Good luck!

Use it just like peanut butter. Any recipe that calls for peanut butter you can use almond butter. It's delicious. I'm allergic to peanut butter and use almond butter instead.

I tried making a couple of different cookies with almond butter....hated every single one of them. Have you tasted it? Yuck....

I love peanut butter. My son loves Sunbutter. We both hated the almond butter.

My go-to healthy snack is a banana with almond butter and toasted coconut, you may want to try it! It's also good with Graham crackers.
