I went to the market to get some tea and there are so many to choose from. I am not much of a regular tea drinker other than I drink Good Earth, so I need advice on which brand to buy i.e. Lipton, Red Rose, Bigelow, etc. since I am having company over. I'm sure there are differences. What do you recommend?

Thank you:)

So What Happened?

Sunshine: I drink the Good Earth original. I've served it before and from what I've gathered, it is an acquired taste as not everyone likes it, so I am thinking of just a regular tea. BTW responders....keep them coming. You are making me anxious to try all these teas that I haven't tried. Thanks again!

Do you drink Good Earth original or do you drink their other flavors as well? I love almost all Good Earth teas and I really like Tazo, as well.

Oh, I forgot one of my favorite brands! Republic of Tea is fantastic. I love their white tea, but Ginger Peach is my absolute favorite.

I like Lipton Black Pearl if you can find it. It's not bitter no matter how long you brew it.

For a decaf/herbal, I like Tazo Refresh mint.

Get the Bigelow "Six Assorted Teas" pack. It's great. It has your standards like Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Constant Comment, as well mint, green and lemon tea varieties.

Stash also makes nice samplers. For tea drinkers, samplers are a bit more fun because you can choose what you want.

Tazo may have a sampler too. Their standard English Breakfast style tea is called "Awake".

hot or cold?
i make iced tea with Lipton.
For hot I like the Tazo and Stash brands. Get some green, chai and then a couple of non caffeine ones - my current favorite is Tazo Orange Sweet tea - super citrus flavor! I also like the Passion one and the Strawberry/Pomegranite one for decaf.

I like Tazo too. Are you planning on offering a variety?

If so, I'd get some Earl Grey, Green Tea, and some regular old Lipton. Most people like any one of those.

I prefer loose leaf and I really like Earl Grey. In a pinch if I buy a supermarket bagged tea I prefer "Stash" or "Tazo" (Starbucks tea brand) Earl Grey.

If you can find Stash teas where you are, they are quite good, and they have everything from a decent English Breakfast tea (I tested it on an elderly Indian friend, and she approved) to all kinds of herbal blends. And if you don't mind spending a bit, try Numi teas - they don't use extracts. For instance, their Earl Grey has actual bergamot peel in the tea, and their white tea with rose is extraordinary. Yummy!

For regular tea I buy Red Rose. The slogan used to be "Only in Canada, you say? Pity..." It is a Canadian tea, and although sold in the US the blend sold there is different than the one sold in Canada. Red Rose in the US is black pekoe, but the Canadian Red Rose is orange pekoe. I have never tried the US blend.

Sorry for the tangent, but I haven't thought of Red Rose tea in YEARS! My mom used to drink it daily and my sister and I collected those little figures that came in the box! Probably what started my love of tea...
I like Tazo and Stash but there are a lot of smaller manufacturers available now. I agree with Hazel, picking the bag from a selection is always fun! Celestial Seasonings has some nice samplers.
Mmmm...off to make some tea before bed!

Have you ever tried Harney & Son's? My favorite is their Hot Cinnamon Spice, but all of their teas are phenomenal. Some Starbucks carry it or you can go to their website. You won't be disappointed!

Personsally, I won't drink Lipton, tastes fake and chemical to me.

I like Republic of Tea, most of them. I can't remember if they do a sampler or not, but if they do, that would be good option.

I also like Barnes and Watson. You can find it at some stores and online at www.barnesandwatson.com (I think that's the site, if nit, google it). It is my all time favorite, I like it's peppermint, chamomile, and it's Tahitian ice tea, but all the flavors are awesome.

Good luck in finding a tea you like!

I do special events..

When I make Iced tea, I use Lipton Tea with a dash Of Republic of Tea "Ginger Peach"
4 regular sized Lipton Tea bags + 1 Bag of the Ginger peach.. makes 2 quarts.

Otherwise we make Iced tea out of all of the teas we drink hot.

I typically ask if people want caffeinated or non-caffeinated, when offering tea, so perhaps one box of each? I recommend going to Trader Joe's. Excellent decaff TJ options: Decaff Green Tea, Peppermint or Well Rested. For caffeine, I recommend their version of Irish Breakfast.

Good luck!

When I want a straight up "cheap" black tea, I prefer Red Rose. But I usually go with an Irish Breakfast, English Breakfast or Darjeeling. Most people seem fine with any of those (Earl Grey can be a bit fragrant for some) and the supermarket brands like Twinnings are consistently good for an individual bag package brew.

I'm getting some new ideas, too! My favorite is Republic of Tea, especially the ginger peach. But someone mentioned Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice and that one is so amazing, way different than anything you have had with cinnamon.

For cheaper, more ordinary teas, I like Twinings. All varieties, but I usually get the orange pekoe one.
