Hi all! My husband and I were thinking of taking a long weekend, with our almost 2year old to get away and have some family time! I was thinking Lake Geneva, but was curious what suggestions you may have. Thanks!!

We love going to the waterparks. The Kalahari in the Dells is fantastic and they have an indoor mini golf, ferris wheel, and arcade games as well as a climbing structure and kids crafts going on every day. We had a blast and can't wait to go back. Our next close to home adventure is going to be Key Lime Cove in Gurnee.

My husband and I love going to Galena, IL. The little town is so quaint. We usually stay in a Bed & Breakfast or at the DeSoto Hotel. There is plenty of shopping, great restaurants, and walking along the river.

We have also stayed in Cedarburg, WI for a night and that has a similar feel - shops, B&Bs and nice restaurants.

Finally, don't forget downtown Chicago. Since we live in the burbs but love the excitement of the city. We often stay at the Whitehall or another boutique hotel in the city and catch a play or have a nice lingering dinner.

Good luck and have fun!

Hi! I live up in the Lake Geneva area. Lake Lawn has shut down. :( But, another option is the Grand Geneva. They have an indoor water park and lots of fun activities on the property. They also have a trolley that will take you into downtown Lake Geneva. A great getaway place!!!

I definitely agree with the other mom who liked the Grand Geneva. The kids' area is Timber Ridge. Each room is actually a small suite with a kitchen, pots and pans, plates, etc. The water park has an area for two year olds. We've been going there for a few years, from the time our kids were babies. Right next to Timber Ridge, by the way, is a little farm with a small petting zoo that is free, as well as a pony available for rides, etc. It's a blast, and not too expensive for everything you get.

Hi J.,

If you do decide to go to the Lake Geneva area, Lake Lawn Lodge Resort is a great place to go with kids. There's a swimming pool, family friendly activities, and they have different types of rooms to accommodate different types of families. Starved Rock Lodge in Utica, IL, is also great. If you are planning to go this winter, they have short hikes and other winter activities. I have fond memories of long weekends at both places with my family, and we went with two-year-olds. Hope that helps.

Best,
R.

Try vrbo.com for a cottage or something for a different experience since you have a toddler.
