Hubby and I have 4 days off. We would like to get away somewhere. Anyone have any suggestions for a place within 2 hours drive of chicago. Don't need child friendly since it will just be me and hubby. What I would like is somewhere with big comfy chairs to curl up in with a good book and no phones in the rooms a fireplace would be a bonus. Open to all suggestions.

What can I do next?

We have been to Galena many times, there are also authentic log cabins for rent that are really unique and relaxing! The bed and breakfasts are awesome too!

Have you ever been to Starved Rock? I don't live in the Chicago area anymore and haven't for a while -but that's where we used to go. There are trails and a lodge. Not sure what it's like in winter.

We have stayed at Eagle Ridge on several occasions (in Galena, IL.) They have somewhat secluded cabins amidst a beautiful landscape of rolling hills, but not far from a main clubhouse w/restaurants and spa. Most of the cabins have fireplaces, screened porches, hot tubs, whirlpool baths, WIFI, and excellent views. It is also far enough away from light pollution coming from Chicago that you can see the stars (we actually take our telescope and stargaze w/the kids here- entire reason for going.)

I'm not sure the driving distance, but it's not very far. We also love Lake Geneva, but that is WI and a bit further of a drive.

I have never actually been to this particular place, but I have been to similar ones. I don't know if it is your cup of tea, but here is a website for Raven Stone Castle in Harvard.

Eagle Ridge near Galena, IL, for sure! It's a very nice lodge resort, and there is a nice restaurant, a bar restaurant with live music on the weekends (guy playing guitar), a pizza shop, a great spa, indoor pool, so you can stay there or you can also visit downtown Galena for more great restaurants, etc.

Within 2 hours of Chicago, I would suggest Starved Rock State Park. If you are willing to drive a bit farther, Pere Marquette State Park has a marvelous lodge and marvelous cabins that are just right for a couples getaway.

Harbor County in SW Michigan (New Buffalo, etc.). There are antique shops, hiking at Warren Dunes, lots of great restaurants and wineries near by. It's great any time of year.
