Was Your Gut Feeling Right About Baby Gender?

ha ha NO!
With my first, we also didn't find out until "Labor Day." I never had a hunch about it, but I could only imagine myself carrying a baby girl up the stairs to our college apartment. About an hour before the baby was born, I suddenly KNEW he was a boy. And he was. So I guess that one was right.

But with my second, I had a strong feeling, before I even took the pregnancy test, that I was pregnant and it was with twin girls. A few hours later, I got my positive test, but I now have one 4 year old boy.

And with my 3rd, I was so confident it was a girl that I even bought a few pink things. Nothing extreme, just a cute pink lamp I saw at a thrift store and little things like that. But I was SO SO SO SO sick with that pregnancy! I suffered like I hadn't with the first two. It was NOTHING like my first two, but I was happy to suffer because it just confirmed I was finally getting my girl. But, you guessed it, boy #3 is now 10 months old.

My gut feeling was wrong with all three of my kids. During my last pregnancy the ultrasound person messed up and called the baby a girl by asking if I realized "she"'has so much hair. Then asked, "oh, do you know the sex of the baby?". I replied I am sure I am having a boy! I was in complete shock when my little "boy" was born and they announced he was a girl!! I was sure my first girl was a boy and positive my second child, boy, was a girl!!

I guessed right both times. I couldnt feature myself with daughters for some reason, all my prego dreams had boy babies. I just knew I was having boys both times...... and sure enough their little wieners shot pee all over the delivery room the minute they hit the fresh air! I saw the squirting pee before I saw them, it's a fond memory.

NO. I was convinced I was having a boy (only a male could make me feel so bad the whole way through :- ) Just kidding!!) So surprised when out came this little princess!! It would have been love at 1st sight no matter what came out though.

Yes, I was right both times. With my first I carried all in the front, like a basketball and everywhere you touched was baby...I had a son. With my second, I was already a few pounds heavier than before I had my son but I carried all-over and although I could feel her it was not "all baby"...yes I said her....I had a girl. I had the feeling I was a having a boy and a girl (in that order) when I was pregnant.

PS...everyone in my family carries in the front for a boy and all around for a girl. Sometimes with the second or third child it is harded to tell especially if the person is gaining a lot of wait but always with the first child we could tell.

I was right both times, but I also carried my babies according to the wives tales. My first I knew was a boy, and he was carried very low. Several people approached me and asked if I was having a boy. I knew my second was a girl instinctively, but I also carried her higher, and in my hips, and at least one person approached my husband and informed him that I was having a girl. Congrats on your baby, either way!

From the time I found out I was pregnant, I knew I was having a boy. That feeling never changed. I had my son in March 2008.

Yep.. no doubt.. We also asked not to be told, because we wanted to be surprised.. but every dream every thought.. it was always a girl..

Mine were right with both kids!! I felt like my daughter was a girl from the time I found out and the same with my son. All the old wives tales said both (about 50% said girl, 50% said boy with each).

Here is my HONEST answer. I have always wanted a Boy..so when I was prego, I was saying "my gut says its a boy boy boy" and it was like i was willing my gender to be a boy. However my body as i got bigger looked like I was carrying a girl...when we found out the s#x, disappointing at the time it was a girl....so my gut feeling was wrong. Hubby and i were disappointed and now we are SOOO thrilled with our girl, we hope the next babies are ALL girls.

haha... we had the same thing. My gut told me she was a girl... I even had a dream about what she would be like. But EVERYONE told me it was going to be a boy, my sister even bought a blue blanket the day she was born on a gut feeling. We read those little wives tail things and they all pointed to the baby being a boy too... We had a beautiful GIRL!

I was absolutely convinced my first was a girl (didn't even think about boy names) and was shocked when my husband said "we have a son" - in fact i think I told him "no it's a girl".

My second pregnancy was completely different in every way (what I could eat, cravings, hair growth and texture, the way i carried, etc.) so I thought "well it must be a girl this time" - nope! I am a proud mama of two beautiful boys :-)

I apparently have no gut instinct when it came to knowing the gender of my two children. We decided to be surprised and waited until delivery to find out what we were having. With my now 4 year old son, I decided to call the fetus a "she" because I didn't want to say "it" all the time. I think I had a dream I was having a girl, too. My son carried very high and never dropped because he was breech. I heard all sorts of wives' tales, but since I'm married to an OB/GYN, I didn't believe any of them. I felt guilty, though, using the wrong pronoun, so during my most recent pregnancy, I decided to not use "he" or "she" to refer to the fetus. Both my husband and I had dreams we would be having a girl, and the pregnancy was definitely different this time around. I felt sicker and popped out sooner and a lot more. By the end, it looked as though I had swallowed a basketball! My OB commented about the heartrate, and the ultrasound had the baby measuring smaller than my first child. Everything seemed to say girl. However, I went over my due date by a few days in an attempt to try a VBAC, and when I had to go for an emergency C-section, we discovered that not only did we have another son, but he ended up being bigger than our first son at birth! During both pregnancies we had a girl's name picked a long time before we decided on a boy's name. In fact, with our second, we still hadn't decided between two names when he was born! However, I wouldn't change a thing and am happy to be blessed with a 4 year old and an almost 2 week old, both healthy boys!

with both of my kids i had a gut feeling what they were ganna be and come to find out they were right my first kid was a boy and my second was a girl. i guess u have to go with your guts especially with the names.

My children are grown and have children of their own. When I was having babies there was nothing to tell us what gender of child we wouldhave. Lots of old wives tales, lots of "tricks" like the pencil on the string. I would estimate that our predictions were right about half of the time. I liked not knowing and found it a wonderful present when the baby was born

For what it's worth the Chinese fertility chart was right both times as well.

Yep, I was right about all three. I've also never been wrong when it came to my friends.

I just read an article about wives tales. The article said the only wives tale that has any merit is heartburn and hair. If you have heartburn your baby will most likely have hair. Low and behold I had terrible heartburn all three times and I had three little hair babies!

But guessing is fun, so enjoy!!!

Nope, I've been wrong twice. I'm pregnant with my second now and I've had numerous people tell me they are totally convinced I'm having a girl. An ultrasound yesterday provided pretty concrete proof I'm not :).

I had absolutely NO "gut feeling" with our first. Like you, half of the people told me I looked like I was carrying a boy, and half said it looked like a girl. Baby gave NO cooperation in the ultrasound, so we didn't know until delivery. SHE is now 12 years old.

For our 2nd, I again had NO "gut feeling". We thought it would be nice to have a boy because then we'd have one of each, but it didn't really matter either way. There was a nine year gap between our pregnancies, and I never had the heart to get rid of any of the baby clothes from our oldest (I'm a pack-rat), so we still had EVERYTHING for a girl. Baby cooperated wonderfully, and we found out at our 17-week ultrasound. SHE is now 3 years old.

With our 3rd baby, I again had NO "gut feeling" but HUBBY did. Again we thought it would be nice to have a boy, but didn't care either way. Hubby figured it was another girl. We did find out at our 22-week ultrasound, but BARELY. We got ONE clear, short-lived shot. SHE is now 3 months old.

My gut said boy and i was right. This was my first. I did not have any pre-natal dreams though. I don't believe in all the superstition. Enjoy the baby though, it goes by so very quickly.

This is going to sound silly but with my first pregnancy I didn't really feel like I was having a boy or a girl. I just felt pregnant. I think I was too pre-occupied with how differently I felt over-all that I hadn't really thought about it. I did hope that I was having a girl though. My son was born August 2005.

With my second pregnancy I knew without a doubt that I was having a boy. I think I knew even before I was pregnant that my next child would be a boy even though I had hoped for a girl. With my second pregnancy I also had a lot of dreams about my baby. Towards the end of my pregnancy I seems to be extra in tune with my body and what was going on. I had a very vivid dream about 2 weeks before I delivered that I gave birth to an 8lbs 15oz baby boy. I wasn't far off! My second son was born in May 2010 weighing in at 9lbs 2 oz.

Yes I knew. Right from the beginning ( 8 weeks preg ) it naturally came out of me to say 'he'. It was he is and he that, even when people said 'well it may be a girl you know'.....nope, I knew it was my boy.
When we did the ultrasound to see the gender and the doc. said 'its a male', everyone had the biggest 'I TOLD YA SO' coming to them. :)

Yep!! I knew from day one that I was having a boy. We also waited until he was born to find out his gender. I was so sure he was a boy we didn't even have a girl named picked out! This time I think it's a girl. We'll see in a few months it I'm right!

It's funny, I knew I was having a boy from the beginning but I didn't rule out a girl. Some people who knew me said they thought it was a boy (except for my husband who wanted a girl), and strangers kept saying a girl. I waited until my 20 week ultrasound and found out it was a boy :) Call it mothers intuition?

Nope I felt from the start I was having a girl and then one night I had a very vivid dream I was having a boy, and lo and behold, my son is now almost 3!!! Funny how that happened.

I predicted both times. My first baby girl, I was 99.9% sure it was going to be a girl. Ppl kept telling me it was a boy which is why that small amount of doubt. With my second, boy, I was 100% sure I was having a boy! No doubts at all and everyone including family were telling me it was a girl!

I was shaped the same both times. With my son, I absolutely knew it was a boy and I was right. With my daughter, I absolutely knew I was having another boy and I was wrong. (My husband was right both times, however.)

Their HB's fit the old wives' tale. Son was in 130's and daughter was in 140's/150's. But my Dr. had a girl whose HB was in the 130's so I still thought mine was a boy. :)

I carried like you (big basketball, all in front) all 3 pregnancies and all 3 have been girls :) One 'old wives tale' that proved right for all 3 of ours was the heart rate - all 3 of my girls fetal heart rate was 145-160 (boys are apparently lower).

With my first I wanted a girl SO bad that I convinced myself I was having a boy - nope! With my second I knew she was a girl from the start and wanted my daughter to have a little sister (they're 20 months apart). With my third I kinda wanted a boy, just to shake things up a bit, but deep down always knew she was another girl and was thrilled when we found out :)

Yup.. I ALWAYS knew I was having a boy.. I just went to the appt to confirm it.. My friends/some family were betting I was wrong and sure enough, I was right.. NOT A DOUBT IN MY MIND I KNEW I was having a boy!!!!

We did find out with each of ours (all boys) but I carried differently and had different feeling pregnancies each time. This one I was pretty positive was a boy, though. I just see myself as a mom of boys for some reason. I would love a girl, but did not expect to have one. Weird. :) Other people, however, have often been wrong with each of mine.

Yes. I felt like I was having a boy from about 8 weeks on, even though my heart wanted a girl. I don't mean that to sound like I resent my son, because I certainly don't. I just always pictured myself with a little girl, all frilly with ribbons and bows.
I carried him like a boy, all in front. You couldn't tell I was pregnant from behind until I was about 8 months along, when my belly started expanding to the sides.
My husband swears he's known since before we ever even started trying that we'd have a boy first and then a girl. So who knows? I guess we'll see in a few years if that's on track or not!

I read somewhere that other people's guesses are about 50% accurate, but that the mother's intuition is 70% accurate.
With my first, everyone guessed it was a boy, and we were all correct. With the second, people were pretty split, but I was 100% sure it was a girl. I found out 2 minutes after he was born that he was a boy.

I knew from 7 weeks (a week after I found out) that I was having a boy. I knew it. And every ultrasound just confirmed it (earliest at 11w, 5d, being told that) and I had a beautiful son on July 12 :)

I never had a gut feeling but every dream I had about my baby, was that it was a boy and it always came out the size of a 3 month old - a big baby! :-) I gave birth to a boy and he was 22 1/2" long and was 3 ounces shy of 10 pounds. So my dreams were right on! :-)

I have been right 3 out of 3 times. I am curious also to see if I am right this time (4th baby). I have always gotten a kick out of the old wives tales, but they are wrong/right about 50% of the time.....hmmmmm. lol The one that has been right for me all 3 times so far is the prenatal dreams. It has to be the first and earliest dream about the baby's sex that you can remember, because after that other people and too many of your own thoughts can alter the sex in dreams. My first pregnancy, I dreamt he was a boy. But, I carried him high and everyone kept telling me it was a girl (even the ultrasound). So, when HE came out, it was quite the surprise!!!! But, I was right! The next two, I carried very low, uncomfortably low. I dreamt girls both times and they were. This one surprisingly I am carrying high again, so we shall see. My first dream with this one was a girl. But, I am carrying this one more like my boy! ha ha ha I will know for sure in about 2 more weeks when he/she comes into the world.

Big fat no for me. I was pretty certain I was having a girl the first time (only because that's all we have in our families and all we know!) and I was right. The second pregnancy was exactly the same in terms of how I carried and felt, etc. so I thought it would be another girl....I was wrong. I didn't even believe our ultrasound because they were "80% sure" it was a boy so I thought SHE had them fooled but it really was a boy!

Funny, I used to make my husband very angry. we struggled to have this baby, and I found out i was expecting VERY early, and was insisting we were having a boy by about the time we hit the 2 month mark. DH was terrified I was going to be upset if I was wrong, but i wasn't. We are almost 32 weeks along with a very active little boy.

the heart rate wives tale was WAY off, his has never been under 150

I always thought it was funny when I was pregnant with both of my girls EVERYONE thought I was having boys. The heart rate, the way I was carrying, the "ring test" (ha) etc. I was even convinced both times and thought I was probably having a boy. But whenever I would have those extra vivid pregnancy dreams...the baby was ALWAYS a girl. And I have two girls :)

This is my fourth pregnancy, and I didn't find out the sex each time. My husband did, and therefore had to keep it a secret from me and everyone else.

#1: Everyone had me convinced it was a boy because of the basketball belly. However, it was a girl.
#2: Carried the same as #1, and again, girl (I did have a dream and gut feeling it was another girl)
#3: Carried the same as #1 and #2, and boom, with a dramatic and fast labor and delivery, a boy.
#4: We'll see around New Year, but I'm carrying the same.

I delivered each baby at the exact same weight (my weight, not theirs), and had no morning sickness, weird cravings, etc, with any of them.

Conclusion: Your body is going to carry your babies the way it needs to. I don't think the way you carry or morning sickness or rings swinging over your belly or Chinese birth charts or even heart rates, can give a good answer.
