Vehix or Craigslist?

We are wanting to sell a car that was owned by my great-grandfather. I'm wondering if any of you have had experience selling a car on either Vehix or Craig's List, and if you would recommend either one, or one over the other.

This car will not bring much money, as it is a 1996 Taurus, so we don't want to spend much to advertise. This is why we're looking into Craig's List and Vehix. I've sold a couple of baby things on Craig's List and love it, but nothing as large as a car.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

What can I do next?

We had a 2001 Mazda Miata in PERFECT condition with 7900 miles on it. It was my 40th bday present and I just drove it in the Plano parade on July 4 and a little bit here and there.

In Dec, hubby placed an ad on CL with pictures and a picture of the odometer just to see what might happen. With the age of the car, we did not expect to get any "bites" because we were asking $11,000.

To our surprise, a man in KS saw the ad, flew down here, gave us cash, our price, no dickering and drove it back to KS. He has since been back in touch with us and said he loves the car.

You never know!!!

We listed our car on both and got more responses off of Craig's List and sold it off of Craig's List too.

We sold our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee a year ago on Craigslist and sold it in 4 days.

We sold our Jeep Cherokee a couple of years ago in the Auto Trader after it was recommended to us by a friend who sold their Infinity in it. It was a reasonable rate and would be published without any work on my part or additional money until the vehicle sold. We sold it within a week and a half for within $500 of what we were asking and my friend had a similar experience. My only suggestion would be to list as many pictures as possible (interior and exterior) if the car is in really good condition.

Susanne, I have never tried Vehix but have purchased two cars on Craigslist. Aside from making the car very affordable, sounding sincere and honest with your message has always been key for me when looking for cars. If the car has problems, list what kind of work it might need and how much it might cost. Emphasizing the reliability of course is always good. You probably already know this but especially focusing on how good the car is or has been is especially important because of the Ford name and its history. Just my two cents. Let me know if you have any questions.
