Good morning! I am looking for a little creative assistance. I have volunteered for a Halloween party at my daughters Pre-School on Friday 10/30. They are doing a Trunk or Treat. They have assigned groups for the parents and asked them to work together to decorate one vehicle per group and the children will parade around the parking lot for treats. Any ideas on simple Halloween car decorating ideas? I of course don't want anything too messy or too expensive (Parents are responsible for bringing the decorations). We are to try and work it out ahead of time with our assigned groups. I am hoping to be able to kick off the brainstorming with the help of your ideas. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

We do a Tunk or Treat every year at our church. Last year the youth group made a pirate ship out of cardboard to look like the bow of a ship at the back. One of the kids popped up dressed as a pirate with a big black bowl of candy to hand out over the edge of the "ship". (They had suckers made up with tissue paper to look like ghosts for the younger kids.)They used a broomstick to hold the flag and draped some ropes and such over the trunk. I think they had a skeleton hanging in the corner, too. We've had others just string Halloween garland over the back of the trunk with a Halloween tablecloth hanging down for a back drop and I tend to take my scarecrow to sit in a chair next to me. Kids will love most anything you do.

Good luck! Happy Treating!

~Lots of spider webs, dried leaves, etc for a "spooky forest" kind of feel

~White paper triangles out of poster board and a red blanket make a nice "sharks mouth"

~cut a pumpkin face (eyes, nose / mouth) out of a big sheet of black craft paper or table covering and tape over the open trunk - put a lantern in the trunk to backlight and have them reach through the mouth for the candy

To build on Marianne's idea, you could use the "Science Fair" cardboard presentation boards as the background, with a foamcore pumpkin in the middle. Or, simple black and orange crepe paper could be draped across the hole of the trunk and they reach through that....if you have a light colored car, wrap it in yellow, orange and white paper and make a candy corn car...black car? Tape Halloween cutouts (ghosts, pumpkins, witches, etc.) all over it.

Little kids love surprises and things that are hidden. How about creating a pumpkin/jack o lantern "face" over the open trunk/back of vehicle and the kids put their hands in the mouth to pull out their treats?
Not sure about materials...a black background with a giant orange pumpkin and the grinning mouth is open for the treats.
