Time for Number 2!

My hubby and I have decided it's time to expand our family. Conceiving our first one was simple - I mean, I had been on the pill for about 8 years, stopped taking it and got pregnant about a month later. We were very lucky - I know how difficult it can be for some couples. But I have this sinking suspician that number 2 won't be so easy. I've been back on the pill for about a year, and stopped taking it at the end of my last cycle. Can anyone out there give me hope that conceiving number 2 can be easy? Has anyone out there gotten pregnant in the first month or two? I realize each pregnancy is different, and the second one may not come so easy, I'm just looking for a glimpse of hope. I'm so antsy!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your positive feedback. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am, indeed, pregnant. Boy, that was quick! :)

Well - it is different for everyone - but I think generally speaking if you got pregnant easily the first time - you probably will not have trouble the 2nd time around. At least that was the case for my husband and I. We also have a 16 month old son and found out in May we are expecting our 2nd (by surprise) So we were not even trying and we got pregnant. I am convinced it is EASIER to get prenant the 2nd time becuse your bobdy already knows what to do and how to respond. Ha Ha. Good luck and I wouldn't worry too much.

My boys are two years apart. Both were conceived about 3 months after I went off the pill. No different the second time around! Good Luck!

My first was a b/c & condom baby. With my second one we decided on the 24th of June, last year, that we wanted another baby and were pregnant by the 27th. We are guessing he was made on the 25th. So it could happen that way for you again. Good luck!

Took us six months to get pregos with #2. But we weren't serious about it till we thought we weren't going to be able to conceive #2. So I started counting the days from the start of my period. Ovulation happens 14 or 15 days after that. We started having sex on those days and became pregos. I called that baby "The Evil Baby of Pain!" It was a very bad prenancy, but she's a sweet girl.

Yes! There is hope. I had been on BC forever (like since I was 16 and got pregnant the first time at 32). We got pregnant I think the second month of trying the first time. The second time, I had just quit nursing, had one full cycle and then got pregant the next (so, like the second month again). Of course, both times we really worked at it. :)

Good luck!

J.,

It took me 2 years and fertility treatments to conceive our first and when she was 18 months old I thought we should try again since it took so long for number 1. We thought we were going to have to go through fertility treatments again and then boom it happened the first month we tried. So it can happen! Good Luck

Hi J.!

I am 28 years old and also have a 16 month old little boy and am already 18 weeks pregnant with #2, so they will be 21 months apart. We were like you and got pregnant as soon as I went off the pill....both times. I had the same feelings you did going into it, but now I don't know why I worried, just one cycle is all it took....we have been very fortunate in that regard....hopefully you will, too! Best of luck and keep us posted :)

Hi J.,

Yes, it can be easy! I too had been on the pill for years the first time and then got pregnant the first month with Dylan. Then with the second one, I had been on the pill about a year, and then got pregnant as soon as I stopped taking it with Tyler. We NEVER thought it would happen that easily again, especially since two of my sisters (one of which is my identical twin) have had to use mild fertility drugs to get pregnant with their children. We assumed the first time was a fluke. It is a bit of a sore topic around here. But we also all know that things happen for a reason. And Tyler has a very special guardian angel looking over him.

Hi J....My husband and I are on the the same path as you and your husband. We are excited about expanding our family as well and it has taken us awhile, also. We have been trying since January, maybe a little too hard, and also, I am 39. We had our 1st child, a son when I was 38. I believe in my heart that it will happend, we just have to be patient. I am just as antsy as you are, but I have always been told that patience is a virtue!

Dear J.:

My husband and I have 2 daughters (3 and 16-months) with daughter #3 to arrive next month (3 girls under 3 years of age!). Like you we conceived #1 daughter with ease within a month or two of going off of the pill. I was on the pill for about 5 years. Shortly after daughter #1 was a year old we too decided it was time to expand the family since we wanted the kids to be close in age. We conceived #2 in about 3-4 months, and I attribute the longer time period to the fact I was still breastfeeding. Now, #3 was a shock since I was placed on a low dose birth control pill and was not breastfeeding. I guess you can say we are very blessed with the ability to conceive with ease, as I know of a couple that has been trying for 10+ years for a baby. Good luck to you and your husband.

Hey J.. Great name,,we share the same one :-) I am J. too. First off, being antsy, or thinking about it too much can make it harder. No medical fact to that, I don't think...just the way it seems to be! I took the pill from the time I was 10 years old (to control very heavy flow) Until I was 30 years old,,,went off it, got pregnant two months later. Went back on hormone control, all kinds, nuva ring, pill, shots, tried all sorts of things...stopped them all, got pregnant again quick. Granted, I miscarried that one, but had nothing to do with birth control,,,was just one of those things, midwife said,,,then was pregnant again in less then a month after miscarriage. So, you just have to relax...have a nice glass of wine...or your favorite drink...and you know the rest!! LOL Best of luck to ya. Let us know when it all works out!! :-)

I got pregnant 4 months after having my 1st, so yes it can happen quickly. We didn't think we would ever have kids; I had been told for 8 years that I couldn't have kids. Now I have a 10 month old and am 6 months pregnant with the next. So my motto is, "If it's supposed to happen, it will happen." Remember, the average couple spends a year trying before they concieve. Just relax and enjoy the trying! Good luck!

Hi J.,

I had 2 miscarriages beofre my first son was born. I had a great doctor and he figured out the problem. I had my first at 38 and my second at 39 1/2. I got pregnant first try 4 times in a row. Everyone is different, but it can be as easy as it can be difficult.

Good luck!

My son was conceived the first month after stopping the pill. This one was conceived right after my IUD was removed.
