Throwing up with Ear Infection

Morning ladies. My 3 year old daughter has an ear infection (started antibiotics on Saturday) and last night into this morning she has been throwing up every 2 hours or so, but it is just phlem. Has anyone else encountered this. I'm going to call the dr. when they open to make sure this is normal.

What can I do next?

ever been on a spinning ride and felt like throwing up afterwards? Some ear infections cause that same sensation. So, yep, normal. BUT it could also be the stomach flu that is going around. Either way you treat it the same, TLC and try not to give her food liquids for a bit.

Hold the antibiotic until you speak with the physician, this could be an allergy to it.
Small sips (talking tablespoons here) of sprite every hour, no food, just that or gatorade. If it worsens, go to the ER. If the tongue or lips are swelling, trouble swallowing or breathing, rash or hives, go to ER.
Call doc in morning for further direction.

Could it be a reaction to the antibiotics?

Yes this happens everytime she gets an ear infection. this time is especailly bad since we all have bad colds and had the flu too. I have done 12 loads of laundry in 4 days of towels and her bedding of throw up she is only 3 and 1/2 and is throw up trained to go on the hard wood floors adn not the carpet and into towels insteado f her bed or the couch but sometiems we do miss or it drips off or gets on ehr clothes hence the large loads of laundry. that is how much she is throwing up. If she does more than 7 times in a episode and more than 7 times in a day the dr and I have a unwritten rule I need to bring her back in. Ask you dr if there is a point of concern.
Good luck and hope she feels better. i ahve it too and my ear pain is unberable, i do not know how thee kids do it!
Good luck

One of my twin daughters used to get frequent ear infections. She threw up with every one. The doctor explained it as there is a muscle between your ear and your throat (i think that is the location) that when pressure is put on it it can casue a gag reflex in most people. When some people clean out their ears and they get the q tip too far they will gag and/or cough. I have never experienced this myself but I have witnessed my partner doing this. So when the ear is full of fluid it is putting pressure on that reflex.
I am not stating that this is what is wrong with your daughter I am just letting you know what I have experienced and what I was told.
I hope she get to feeling better soon!!

My 4 year old daughter and I both have allergies. I don't know if it is related or not, but every time we get sick, any type of cold or sinus drainage, we will cough and throw up phlem. It is the only way to bring it up for me and it is uncontrollable. This could maybe be the problem. It is like a tickle that starts in the back of the throat, which leads to coughing and then throwing up.

Yes, both my girls have thrown up from an ear infection. I would definately consult the Dr. to make sure she isn't having an allergic reaction to the meds just to be safe. It is a great possibilty the meds are breaking up the phlem, and going to her tummy making her feel sick.
Hope your little one feels better soon!

I would say that maybe she has vertigo (imbalance of the equillibrium) and is common with ear infections. However, like you said, I would call the doc to just make sure.
