Thinking About Getting Implanon, What Is Your Experience with It?

I am thinking about getting Implanon and want to know how others have done on it. I am breastfeeding so it's either this or the mini-pill as I'm not wanting to do anything permanent. I like the idea of not worrying about bc for 3 years. However, I gained weight when I was on Nuvaring, so I was mainly wondering about others weight experience while on Implanon. And if you experienced weight gain, have you lost weight by exercising and/or by making better meal choices?

What can I do next?

I had implanon for a short 3 months then had it removed. I didn't respond well to the hormones--I got it 4 months after giving birth, and its like it switched me back into extreme post-partum mode. I had NO sex drive, violent mood swings, and I started gaining weight. Once I had it removed, the symptoms went away. I've always been pretty sensitive to the hormones in birth control though, I went through all those symptoms while on the pill too. I'm trying to get a paraguard IUD placed, it's hormone-free.

I despised Nuvaring & couldn't wait to get off of it. I got Implanon inserted without any issues & didn't get a period at all for about 9 months which was expected for me because that was the reaction I had when on the Depo shot. I lost all of the weight I had gained while on Depo/Nuvaring really without trying which was great. After about 9 months I started getting really wicked periods which over the next 6 months became constant. I literally bled for 13 weeks straight. At that point I went into my gyno's office & begged them to remove it right that instant. She talked to me about all of my options & I ended up going home that day letting hubs know that he had 6 weeks to schedule & receive a vasectomy or the likelihood of us getting pregnant again was going to skyrocket, lol. He called & scheduled an appointment the next day, got the vasectomy 2 weeks later, got checked for any spare swimmers, & I got that damn thing removed!!

I have had Implanon since June, and I have had my period since July. Yes, not one day off since July 12 - that is over 3 months now of bleeding! Like Melissa J I told my husband that he had better get himself to the urologist and get a vasectomy before we arrive in Korea (where he is living), because I am getting this thing removed ASAP!
I also have gained weight even though I have increased my excercise routine drastically, and have constant "PMS" cravings for junk food. I also go through a hormonal type cycle every other week, so for one week I am pissy and sad and just feel awful, then the next week all I do is eat. Then I am back to the pissy, sad me, then again to the hungry but happy me. It sucks! I will never reccommend the Implanon to anyone, and will be thrilled to be rid of it!

I did Implanon - now on Nuvaring.... I bled what seemed like constantly with Implanon and had it removed after 1 year. Nuva ring is better - but I gained weight - not so w/ the Implanon... might just be that I'm older now (over 40) and the metabolism just isn't what it used to be!!!!
