If you go to the federal government site...i think it is govjobs.gov or something like that. They have jobs that require you to have a nursing degree but are more to the director/manager side. This may get you out of rat race and keep your salary. Good luck.

My cousin was in the same position you are. She was just burned out and wanted to spend more time with her son. She took a job with BCBS and worked from home until her son got old enough to be a latch key kid. She loves the no weekends and no holidays, not to mention getting off work by 5:00! have you ever thought about being a Home Care Nurse. The money is just as good and sometimes even better. Also you can do a few visits a day, do all your paperwork at home and just drop it into the office when needed. You wouldn't be on your feet all day and it surely doesn't wear you out like a hospital setting does. I'm a Combat Medic in the military and I know how stressful it can get. Overworked and under paid!!!! LOL ALso, since you are working on your Master's you can think about teaching after your finished. Hoped this helped alittle and Good Luck :-)

So what did you end up doing? I am in that same position now. I would love to be a stay at home mom but it is just not financially possible right now. Currently I work 4 10 hour days and I have to rotate everyoher Sat. I do enjoy my job but I just wish that I had a Mon-Fri job. I want to be able to spend the weekends with my family. My husband is also gone a lot being in the military so I am always the one to take my son to daycare. We have to get up at 4:30 in the morning so I can be to work at 5:30. I wanted the early morning shift so I could at least have dinner and play time with my son but I still feel like my days are to short with him.

You may want to look into an administrative nursing position. It certainly sounds as if you are well qualified! Retirement homes are great places for positions like that. It might be worth looking into director of nursing (or assistant DON) for nursing homes or assisted livings. Its rewarding without the long shifts and they need RNs in those positions. I always believe that if you have any doubts with your job whether you hate it or even just bored with it that you should broaden your horizons. Especially when you have a child around. I am a working mother of two boys that are now 10 and 13 but I worked when they were younger and couldnt imagine the long hours you put in for your career and then coming home to a young child. I bet you are tired and exhausted at times. My mom was a nurse when I was younger and she started to get burned out from the long hours so she ended up getting a job as an aide at a retirement home which she has been doing now for 28 years and loves it. She works a set schedule usually no more than 8 hours and chooses whether she wants nights or days. That might be something to look into. I know she works for a private company that the retirement home subs out and makes very good pay. Goodluck on your decision, I hope it all works out for the best.
