Teething (Molars) - Colorado Springs,CO

My son has had his ups and downs with teething. His molars are really starting to bother him a lot and it makes him so cranky, even sleep has become hard for him. We have tried tylenol and teething gels, chewy toys and such. Anyone have any other ideas to help ease his pain? He is almost 15 months old and has his upper and lower front teeth already. He goes through variuos stages of teething with these molars and yet none have broken through. I have to say that this time has been the worst for him. He has even been running fevers on and off. We took him to the Dr. to make sure it wasn't anything more and they assured us it was his teething.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The pains have subsided for now. I have tried motrin in the past for this as well. They seem to have no effect on my son at all. I am sure the next bout will be a little worse for him and us but we will continue trying new things and maybe one will work for him. Thank you all for your thoguths and advice and good luck to you all!

Tylenol is really a good medication for fevers and simple pain. But with teething you have inflammation too. Motrin/Ibuprofin reduces the swelling and inflammation in the nerve endings and therefore makes the pain less. It works better teething pain because of this.

Get your pharmacist to give you the details on how to treat with Motrin. It can be a dangerous medication, just like Tylenol can be. A pharmacist is a specialist in medications a doc isn't.

I would keep up with the Tylenol. Another thing to try is a wet washcloth. You can see if he likes chewing on it. Otherwise you just have to bear with it.

I am in the same boat as you. It's horrible. My daughter is 17 months and has cut 3 of her molars so far. The first two were horrible. The 3rd wasn't so bad. The 4th one is giving us all kinds of problems. I feel awful for her. She's in constant pain and the only thing that helps is medicine. I hate to constantly give her meds, but I don't know what else to do. :( We've been using Ibuprofen since it lasts longer and seems to work better. It just totally stinks that there's really nothing we can do for them.

BALTIC AMBER TEETHING NECKLACES!!! Sounds really hokey, but they work! My 14-month-old son's necklace has dramatically cut his pain, and my neighbor's baby's necklace almost eliminated his excessive drooling. I got mine at inspiredbyfinn.com (you can find Inspired By Finn on Facebook, too). According to Kate on that site, the light colored ones work best, so I got a milky, buttery yellow one for my son. We've been very happy with it (my husband even says it works and he's not a supporter of natural/alternative medicine!!!)

Early teething is the worst! I have the best luck with Motrin or Ibuprofin rather than Tylenol. Not sure why. Probably because Motrin and Ibuprofin take down swelling too. I also have luck with a cold wet wash rag or ice.

Good luck!
