Swim Diapers

I was invited by a friend to swim at her community pool, but my 9 month old hadn't pooped yet that day, so I was afraid to take him in the water. He has an adorable bathing suit that matches his 9 year old brother's... but I didn't have a swim diaper. Do they really work to keep poop contained??? Should I use elastic pants instead (assuming they even still sell such a thing--??)

So What Happened?™

Thanks! I bit the bullet and bought the little swimmers- can't wait to try them now!

We use the disposable swim diapers just about everyday but they can get quite expensive. Usually Sam's carries them in a larger packages and for cheaper. I wouldnt buy them anywhere else!

My son did the safe start program at the Y and we used the Swimmies disposable diapers, but when he startes his refresher course there we brought the reuseable swimming pants we brought it at Toys r us and i could tell you that it was worth it. he pooped in it a couple of times and you wouldn't have notice. besides the smell of course..lol.. but really the work good. and they also are not bulky and the fit well with a bathingsuit over.good luck

They absolutely work. I used them with my daughter and now I use them with my son. I use the Little Swimmers by Huggies, but I think Pampers has some out now too, haven't tried those yet.

the little swimmers work great.

You *can* use training pants or a reuseable swim diaper (check amazon.com; they have a number to choose from), either of which costs less than a small package of "Little Swimmers". are reuseable, do the trick of containing poopie (at least until it's noticed) and don't spend an eternity in the landfills after use.

As a self-proclaimed northern-Californian tree-hugger, I tried this for a while, but after changing a couple of reuseables *and* a couple of disposeables (purchased in a moment of need when visiting friends without the reuseables handy) I was a quick convert.

The Little Swimmer disposeables do a *great* job. They somehow manage to absorb most everything without getting huge and bloated like a normal disposeable diaper would, and you're not stuck having to figure out how to handle, store and stransport what is essentially a plastic bag full of poo and water. They're fantastic.

Use your recycling containers and I'm sure that the karma gods will look the other way at a little indescretion like this.

Target, and I am sure alot of other retailers, sell the elsatic swim pants that can be washed for a nominal cost.

When my son had Safe Start lessons at the Y, they wanted him in a swim diaper with swimming "pants" on top--which is basically a swim suit with a rubber (vs. mesh) liner.
Those disposable swim diapers are all about containing the poop and they work marvelously. Plus they rip off like pull ups so they are easy to get off. I've used both huggies, pampers, and an off brand i got from toys r us--all worked great.
They are way better than regular diapers since they don't expand--and trust me those regular diapers can hold A LOT of water.

I have a friend who reuses the used (pee only!) little swimmers- she washes them (maybe even in the washing machine? I think if I were to try this then I would maybe put them in a mesh lingerie bag in the wash & I think I'd put it in a load where it wouldn't matter somehow if they came apart?)
anyone else hear of this? anyone willing to try it & report back? :-)
