Swim Diapers for a 9 Month Old
We are getting ready for a little summer fun at the pool, and wondered if anyone has any words of wisdom in regards to a swim diaper for a 17 lb. baby girl? The smallest size on Pampers disposibles starts at 16 lbs. according to the package, but when I took them out they are HUGE. What are my other options? I don't want to be that parent responsible for an accident in the pool. Oh, her suit has a liner built in, but I am told that they don't really do much. thanks!

I would go with a reusable swim diaper. They are about the same price you would pay for a whole package of disposible and they are great.

I like Finis for reusable and I still put a regular swimsuit over the swim diaper. If you're looking for a disposable (you may want to check with the pool you're going to because some of them are specific) Huggies Little Swimmers fit much better than the Pampers, the smallest size they make is 16-26 lbs so they're going to be slightly large but once you put a swim bottom over them they do their job.

I run Babies Bottoms and More, a cloth diaper store in Farmers Branch, out of my home. We have reusable swim diapers made by Imse Vimse that will fit starting at 9 lbs. We're open today (Saturday) fromu 1-4, and during the week by appointment. You can find our address and phone number on our website, www.babiesbottomsandmore.com.

I've used both the Huggies and Little Swimmers swim diapers with my daughter. Starting as young as 3 months old. I just put the smallest swim diaper I could find on her (started at 16 lbs like the ones you have) and put her bathing suit on over it. It worked fine. The bathing suit bottom is enough to hold in the swim diaper even when its too big. If you put her in a bikini just roll the top of the diaper down just a bit. I haven't tried the reuseable swim diapers. That could be a good option too.

My kids' swim teacher doesn't allow the disposable swim diapers - she says they don't do the job. She has reusable swim diapers that hold the poop in. You can find them online. Even the disposable ones don't hold urine in. My son always had the reusable one under his regular swim suit, because you are right the swimsuit liners don't help.

Before we go to the pool I put the baby into the exesaucer. It always makes him poop before we go.

I like the Huggies brand. We're Pampers lovers, but I'm not a fan of their swim diapers. Both my boys peed on me and the chair while wearing them! We used the Little Swimmers when they were 9 months old and loved them.
