Super Bowl Sunday -- What Is Your Favorite Part or Not?

I love the ads and half time show.

Who do you think Katy Perry's surprise female guest will be? I'm thinking Cyndi Lauper maybe because Katy said Girls want to have fun. I love Lenny Kravitz as well so I will be glued to the half time show.

Today I am making a seven layer dip (still checking for the best recipe) and getting Hooters three-mile island hot wings (hubby's favorite). I'll also have other finger foods and munchies for us. We usually don't have a party with guests or go to parties for Super Bowl because it is on Sunday night and gets pretty late and we will not get on the road if we have been drinking anything, We do plan on enjoying some great wine as we watch.

Our daughter is coming over to do some laundry, visit and we plan an early birthday celebration for our toy poodle who turns 10 on Wednesday the 4th. My grocer has the cutest dog treats in the frozen section which is basically ice cream for dogs. I buy them on special occasions. Yes we have very spoiled dogs!

Our weather is not too bad today, not beautiful like it was last week, but that is ok.. We'll enjoy having the fire on, nice bottle of wine and enjoying the Super Bowl show.

So, what are your favorite things about Super Bowl? Do you have or go to parties? What are your favorite foods to serve?

I hope everyone has a good day!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your replies so far. I am not so much into the football game as I am with the ads and half-time show. I might be more into the game if the Cowboys were playing! I will enjoy being with my family and thankful that we can be together today. My daughter comes over about once a week and we text/chat daily. So, I look forward to her being here more than anything else.

Oops poodle turns 9, our Cocker turned 10 on my birthday last September.

Update.... I ended up boiling peanuts (yum) and roasting peanuts as well.

Loved Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz!!!

I'm enjoying the replies....

I am a fan of watching half time, and catching up with some of the commercials.

I would watch the game if my 'fav' team was IN the bowl, but alas, they have not been for a few years.

Now, the only football game I watch is the "Army/Navy" game. And that is due only to the military history in my family.

I am catching up on laundry here. And (I am ashamed to admit) de trimming the x mas tree! YES parents...even though ALL of the other decorations inside and outside are packed away...MY tree is still UP and fully decorated.

(Wondering if there is a way to move the WHOLE decorated tree to basement fully decorated).

I may begin de decorating after next laundry load.

My favorite part of the SB this year is that I am not hosting a crowd. It's being diverted for a year!

But I've made two desserts and 200 pigs in blankets. NOw I'm ready to sit, chat, drink some wine and chill.

I WILL watch the 1/2 time show. Should be fun. Even when hosting I take a break, put my weary feet up and watch the show. Maybe this year I can watch a few commercials, too!

We don't watch......

Our snow storm is turning blizzard, so our hope to take the kids sledding has turned into popcorn and a movie-with hubby and I drinking rum and coke. It's crazy snow out there. Looks like we may get close to 20 inches if it keeps up at its current rate.

Oh I wish everyone a good afternoon with it. We used to watch the puppy bowl when we had cable. Other than that, I'll be enjoying how empty the neighborhood shops and streets are. I hate football.

So, I live just outside of Seattle. Everywhere you turn there is Seahawks stuff. We are excited to repeat last year!
We will be heading over to my brother's house where he is hosting a super bowl party. People are bringing things to eat, I am currently baking my killer chocolate chip cookies, and we will cheer on our team to victory.
I don't even LIKE football, but I find myself wooping and hollaring with everyone.
Then we will go straight home. The game will be over at about 6:30 (our time) and when we win ALL of the fans might get a little crazy, so I would rather be home with my kids by then.
GO HAWKS! #beastmode #awesomer

I watch the puppy bowl on Animal Planet.

And I'll admit, Chris Pratt and Chris Evans have been super cute with their "trash talk" and bet about whoever's team loses has to dress as their character (StarLord or Captain America) and visit the Children's Hospital in the city of the winning team. Chris Pratt also has his fans donating money to the Seattle Children's hospital on twitter today. Talk about using your celebrity for a good cause.

My favorite thing is that the Patriots are frequently a contender. If they're not in it, I really don't care about the game but will still watch. Can't stand Katy Perry so I'll ignore that part of the half-time show. Go Pats!

Well, we have friends coming at 2 (to hang out, taste beers, chat) and I've been doing the same level of housecleaning a lot of people are likely doing right now. That's my least favorite part, but the house is 75% to satisfaction, I'll get that last 15% son and hell with the last 10%. :)

Beer tasting? We are serving light snacks (chips, hummus, salsa, olives and cheese/bread) and when company leaves, we'll go get Thai takeout for dinner.

My favorite part of Superbowl Sunday is plenty of other people will be able to watch and enjoy something they love. It's not for us, really (no one in our group cares a whit for football) yet I do like that other people get a kick out of it.

Your Superbowl plan sounds delish! With the 3 MI hot wings and wine yum!

We have a blizzard warning here and we are keeping our fingers crossed we don't lose our satellite signal :-(.

Love football! I have just won my 3rd Fanasty Football Super Bowl!!!! And one of my team members is playing tonight so I have to cheer for him.

We will do an appetizer buffet and watch the game with the kids. We have a divided house, so that adds to the fun.

And I will be secretly keeping a pout count, LOL. That Tom Brady pouts more then any other QB I know when things don't go his way. Sorry..Pats fans, but it is funny to watch.

May the best team win!

Have fun everyone!

Michelle S.... It should be Green Bay we are watching....so disappointed, but good for Rodgers being nominated!

ETA: oops almost forgot....my favorite part is I make a caramelized onion dip...so good. Hubby has been waiting all week for it. And of course the commercials....

Our favorite thing about super bowl is going out shopping or taking kids somewhere fun. We don't get into super bowl so anywhere we go it's pretty empty. However we had a big snow storm last night and all the kids want to do is play in the snow.

My husband is working because where he works is in the middle of now-where so his workers, who work 24 hour shifts 365 days a year are calling in cause they are having hard time accessing clear roads.

So I will use today as a relaxing day and play with our new golden doodle puppy.

Have fun

I'm taking a break from the game...

We had pizza, bourbon wings with celery/ranch dressing, deviled eggs, potato skins, mozzarella sticks and 7layer bean dip.

I want the Patriots to win. But really? My team lost in the play-offs so the Patriots are my husband's team - so GO PATRIOTS!!!

Love the commercials. Trying to figure out the W. (Amy Purdy) and her ability to persevere has to do with a car...but what she does on her mechanical legs?? AWESOME!!!

Used to have parties. But since this year husband's team is playing, he doesn't want to be rude and not talk to people so we are home with the kids...

Well....a bit of sour grapes here, because my Packers are not playing today. But Aaron Rodgers did get mvp last night and was nominated for the Walter Payton award! We don't care about football and now you can catch all the fun ads online or on TV news shows after, or even before, the game itself....Truly, it's about the ads!

We do greatly look forward to our church's Super Bowl Subs fundraiser each year. The church makes sub sandwiches and sells them for folks to take home and have during the game (or whenever), and also has homemade, football-shaped brownies for sale, and Rice Krispie Treat footballs too -- made from Cocoa Puffs so they're brown like a football. Fun, and we eat our sandwiches while watching TV that's not football!

We don't go to any parties or host one ourselves. We aren't interested in the game at all really. We do set the DVR though to scroll past the game and watch the commercials and almost always watch the half time show. Occasionally there is someone we just don't enjoy. We pay attention to a few of the highlights because it's inevitable to be the "water cooler talk" at work so having a vague idea is always good. We tend to watch the game on the DVR after the game is over or almost over.
We don't have a lot planned for the day. A couple of projects and errands mostly. I have a feeling I'm going to see a lot of this "Destiny" video game on the TV today LOL

Boiling peanuts sounds fun and yummy! This year was weird around here. Of course we were all sad when the Broncos were knocked out, and of course we hoped the Packers would have beaten the Seahawks (just being spiteful since the Seahawks beat us last year!!). So after a series of disappointments so many people said it was just a nothing year for the Superbowl. Even if the Patriots won, everyone knew it would be with an asterisk next to it, so lots didn't even bother. Being in CO, I can't tell you how many people went skiing instead!

We watched for the halftime show, which I thought was fantastic! Commercials were pretty good, too! Other than that, we ate- and ate- and ate. Worked out a little harder this morning! :-0

I have always loved football. My mom was a die hard Dolphins fan. Being from Florida, I still love the Dolphins and Bucs. I grew to love the Pats though. Very happy they won! Again!

We usually pop popcorn, and then pizza. I always have to have a beer. Or two.

I really was hoping Lenny would be on more for half-time. Katy Perry was cute. I just miss the more classic bands. Aerosmith would have been nice. I remember when it was The Who. I was so excited.

I love, love, love football! And Boston is home so I am a die hard Pats fan - SUPER EXCITED!!!!!!

I am always excited for football - I LOVE to watch it no matter who is playing. I love the party atmosphere, even if it's just my husband and our three kids. Last night our 11 year old had one of her friends spend the night, also a big Boston sports fan.

I'm not so in to the commercials and always wish the half-time was shorter. Last night I thought Missy stole the show.

It all depends.
When my Saints played, I watched the whole game. Any other teams playing, I couldn't care less who wins.
When the Saints aren't playing, I will watch the half-time show if it's a performer I like. I'm not a fan of Katy Perry.
I couldn't care less about the commercials. Commercial breaks are when I go get refreshments, pee, or go outside to smoke.
So this year, I didn't watch it at all.

We usually have 8-10 people over each year. We only invite people who don't care much about the game itself which is how we feel. We keep it festive with decorations and I love cooking for it and I make everything from scratch. This year we had a layered chicken dip, home made guacamole, reuben dip, veggies, corn dog bites (came up with this one myself), tomatoes and mozzarella salad, wings and a seafood dip. Guests usually bring desserts. We generally don't watch the half time show (caused quite a stir on this board with this last year).

I really enjoyed America the Beautiful and the National Anthem. I didn't see anything else except the bud commercial with the puppy - so cute. Wish I would have seen more of the game (or commercials), but I was catching up with a friend I don't see often enough and frying the corn dog balls).
