I'd like to investigate sending my kids to summer camp this year. My son will be 11 this summer, is a bit shy & might benefit from a camp geared toward confidence building, etc. My daughter will be 6 and loves adventures. Does anyone have any feedback (good & bad) or recommendations about day camps/ overnight camps that I could check into? None of my friends have sent their kids to summer camps (except the park district ones), so I don't know where to begin. Thanks!

What can I do next?

A few different people in our neighbor send there kids to Camp Duncun in Volo. I believe spaces fill up quick. It's a big camp with a huge pool - which seems to be the hit with the kids. I don't have personal experience with it, but I understand it to be a little expensive.

Chicago Martial Arts & Fitness Center has an awesome camp. Especially if you are looking for confidence building, your son will definitely find it here. For more information call ###-###-####.

The best one my children (girls 11 & 8) have ever gone to is called Catholic & Cool Kids camp at the Bishop Lane retreat center in Rockford, there are a couple sessions throughout the summer it is a good introduction to overnoght camp as it is only for 1 or 2 nights and it is right there in Rockford, another camp I sent my 11 yr old daughter to last summer was called Camp Ondesonk, it is in Ozark Illinois lasted for 1 week and she had a BLAST!!!! this was a little far and she did get homesick at first but ended up having the time of her life!! Also, the girl scouts and the cub scouts have some awesome summer adventures--check those out, I know my 11 yr old will be attending a few of those this summer. Hope this helps!

I don't know where you live but I sent my daughter to the YMCA Camp Duncan in Volo last year and loved it. They are taught boating, archery, swimming, etc. If your children love the outdoors, they will love this camp.

My son and daughter went to Sugar Creek Bible Camp last summer and loved it. They have river boating, horse back riding, and creek stomping. (The kids love creek stomping.) The website is www.sugarcreekbiblecamp.org . Look under summer programs to find an outline that applies to what you are looking for.
