Summer Camps for 5/6 Year Old Girl

My grand daughter goes to Camp Thurman in Arlington for 1 week each summer. Don't know if 6 year olds go all day or 1/2 days. She and her friends love it and my son's friends, who attended over the last 15 years have great memories of going there. You can check it out at www.campthurman.org.

We always do a couple of Vacation Bible Schools, and depending on budget we look at summer camps and classes. City of Southlake has some really good ones, and we've done Nature School at River Legacy Park in Arlington. Museum School and Zoo School are both pretty spendy, but I've heard the quality is great.

You should be able to google and find some local camps. We live in McKinney but last year my daughter did VBC for a week, she did a princess camp at a place called Sugar and Spice, a dance camp and a gymnastics camp. (It was a bust summer.. LOL) She was only 4 then and she had a great time :) I would check the local churches for VBC/VBS and I know the Little Gym does camps too, just keep your eyes peeled :)

When she turns six, she can then go to Painting with a Twist in Frisco. They have lots of fun kid themed projects.

You didn't say where you live but...the city of denton parks and rec has great summer camps. Usually pool 3 days a week and one day is a great field trip. The whole week is about 160 (can't remember the exact price). You only have to bring lunch and snacks, the field trips are not extra.

YMCA day camps are a BLAST for the kids. My daughter LOVED it and has been talking about it all year. She can't wait for the summer to start just so she can go back to day camp!

Lifetime Fitness has summer camps for kids.

My son was six last summer and he spent 4 days at an overnight camp in Granbury called El Tesoro. He loved it and wants to go back this year for a week.
I went to summer camp every year as a kid from 7 - 17, so I was very excited he had such a great time.

Zoo camp at the FW Zoo is fantastic!!! Also, check out the YMCA's Camp Carter. Kids do horse-back riding, archery, canoeing, fishing, crafts and more! I did it when I was a kid and had so much fun. My nephew attended last year and said he's never had so much fun is his whole life! He would come home exhasusted, but jazzed to tell us about all his adventures. We plan to sign my son up this year.

The private schools around here have some great camps open to everyone- Greenhill, Parish, Hockaday. Also, there are camps at a lot of museums, etc -- Dallas zoo, Nature & Science Museum, Arboretum. Kidville which just opened at Preston/Royal has several camp options - I think my daughter is going to go to the princess one. Also the Park Cities Y has a camp that my daughter loved last summer (my daughter will be 5 in July). I think In the Loop Kids has a list of summer camps. You might check that out too.

Adventure Camps at Lake Grapevine are great, my kids went for a week last year and loved it, they are day camps.
Keller ISD doesn't offer any type of camp, just the one through the afterschool care provider Clayton Yes - my kids went one week last summer and hated it, it is NOT run by teachers. ASI Gymnastics, Texas Tumblers, YMCA Northpark, and Keller Pointe all have day camps. There are soccer camps as well, usually one runs on the fields by the Y, and then there's a Coerver camp in Bedford as well. You could also look into Tarrant County College For Kids, I think they have some 1st grade options at one of their colleges; they run 3 weeks, morning or afternoon, and the kids get to do some great classes.

Oops, forgot about Haven's Horses on Golden Triangle at Christ's Haven group home, they offer horseback riding camps and the people there are great!

You might want to look and see if any of your local school districts offer summer camps. Both McKinney and Allen offer great camps over the summer for a TERRIFIC price, so I bet other ISD's in the metroplex do the same. What I like most about them is that they are taught by TEACHERS in the district. My kids have been going for over 5 years now and absolutely love them (they are already talking about what they will do this year).
