Hi,

My husband, daughter and I will be moving to the area in the next two months from Washington DC. I don't know if I will be able to make a trip down there to find a good neighborhood and house before we are on our way. I have a few questions about the Pensacola, and surrounding areas. Any suggestions that you have would be greatly appreicated!
My husband will be working at Hurlburt Field. I don't know anything about the area, but it seems like there is not much near there, is that true? He works a weird schedule, so if he has to drive a little while to get to work, he is willing to do that so that we can live in an nice area with lots to do with little ones. I have been looking for homes all over the Pensacola area. Are there neighborhoods that are better then others? Better schools, play grounds, family friendly areas? I have been on Craigslist looking for homes to rent and it seems that there are a lot on the market. We are trying to keep rent at $1300 or less. Can we get a nice house in the area for that amount? In a nice neighborhood? I love being around others,(Mommy groups, pools, parks etc.) where there are things to do during the day.
Do you know of any homes in a nice area that would be available for rent in the next few months? Any suggestions would be appreciated. This is the second move in two years to a new area, and I want to make sure that we start out on the right foot. Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions!!!

What can I do next?

I think you'll enjoy this area. There is a mall near Hurlburt field, restaurants, and is in between beautiful Destin, Navarre and Pensacola.

I was new to the area about 6 years ago and found that the schools are wonderful in Navarre. It is a quiet community, just down the road from peaceful and beautiful Navarre Beach and the Childrens park by the Navarre beach bridge that includes playground equipment, a splash pad in the summer, a duck pond, a butterfly house and a small boardwalk that goes along the water and under the bridge.

Navarre is about a 20-25 minute drive from Hurlburt field. Holley by the Sea is a very large neighborhood in the area where you could find rentals in your price range. The neighborhood has a very large Recreation Center that includes a year round pool, classes for children and a small park by the water. There are also many other nice neighborhoods you may want to look at. Navarre Beach Realty is a great place to call for rentals. Ask for Jane and tell them A. Londre' sent you. They'll find you just what you are looking for.

In addition, you may want to find a great Caregiver so that you can get some adult time. You can call The Babysitter Tree. There is a database of Caregivers for you to interview. You give them your "wish list" of qualifications and they will refer you Caregivers in your area. You can review their information in the comfort of your home and interview anyone of interest. At the interviews, you can view their background checks, references and credentials. Give them a call at ###-###-####.

Have fun relocating. I think you'll find that our area is one of the most family oriented, peaceful areas in the USA.
Welcome!

E.,

First and far most before searching for FUN, think SAFETY for your family. Here is a website to search for preditors to keep your family safe in an area you might find in living: http://www.familywatchdog.us

Good luck in your search in the Pensacola, Navarre area. Yes, we do have the most beautiful White sand beaches in the world here. There are plenty of empty homes right now all over, I'm sure you will find one that is best for what you are looking for.

941home.com is a website for Mark Downey and Associates. My husband is friends with Brock and Erica Dickens. They are local realtors, they know what's available and they are super friendly people. *Mark is too!
The drive to Hurlburt from Pensacola is going to be a little long. You can definitely find a nice house to rent for $1300 or less. There are loads of good neighborhoods scattered throughout Pensacola, but there are also some not so good ones that seem to also be scattered about. Knowing the commute, I would look maybe in Gulf Breeze or Around Scenic Highway on the East Side of Pensacola. Since you are pretty far away, I totally suggest calling a realtor and getting suggestions from professionals. Also check out pensacolamls.com for tons of listings.
My husband and I moved from DC to Pensacola back in 2005 and we love it here. Good luck!

If your husband is working at Hulburt, you should look for houses in Navarre or Gulf Breeze. If you will be here until your little one starts school Gulf Breeze has the best schools. There is a little park with a water area on 98 in Navarre and a zoo (not the best one) in Gulf Breeze, all over Pensacola and Gulf Breeze there are nice family parks.I have lived in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, and most of my friends live in Gulf Breeze or Navarre. I personally love Gulf Breeze because its a small town feel. I would not live in Ft Walton or Pensacola! Good Luck I hope you find the right place for your family! It's not as expensive to live down here as DC you can also go to www.realtor.com and look for rentals.
