State of the Union . . .

I watch because I live in the United States. He is my president. Regardless of whether a person voted for him or not he is the president. Of the United States. He is every US citizens president. And to act like he is not is just rude. So yes I watch because I care what is going on in my country.

I won't watch because he is taking us down the wrong road. Wants government to control everything. Socialism. Not a good thing for the great United States of America.

Wow, so funny that all of the Republicans don't remember the situation the country was in when the president took office. Short memory much? My house is back to where it was, my 401k is better than it was, many people are insured who weren't before, we got Bin Laden, etc., etc. Funny how so many people on here hate him, but he was elected twice. Love it!!

This is the first State of the Union I haven't watched in its entirety since 1968. I can't stand this man that seems to do what ever he can to destroy America.

He has done his best to make welfare a career choice and to make unemployment an alternative to working. If there is ever a book written about the rise and fall of freedom and America, Obama will have several chapters.

I'm astounded at all of the people that think the sun rises and sets with Obama with a major reason for their support I because Obama is black. How racist can you be? Gas is almost twice as expensive now as it was when Obama took office, but no Obama supporter acknowledges that. Obama calls for jobs, but he refuses to allow the Keystone Pipeline to be built.

Obama and Clinton left our soldiers and ambassador to die in Benghazi. We have fighters in Italy less than an hours flight time away from Benghazi. But they weren't used. I think its because Obama didn't want to make his friends in Al Qaeda mad. There are dozens of other reasons, but I'm too upset with Obama to take the time to writ them down. Obama has broken so many of our laws, but the democrats won't impeach one of their own.

I only hope Obama's supporters are the ones to be hurt the most by Obamas policies. Good luck to you and yours.

Our healthcare just skyrocketed...Why am I paying a new high fortune for it? I pay for it every yr and on time. Now, it is sooooo darn overpriced beyond means. NO VACATION (and it wouldn't have been an expensive one) for us this year...Thanks Obama.

You all are more than welcome to dislike/despise whatever politician you want, and go ahead and let MP readers know. But you might want to dial down the invective a tad (and the uber-silly "impeach him" comments) if you don't want to appear to be downright ignorant. I don't remember ever writing stuff like that in a public forum about "W", and I'm sure I despised him just as much as you all appear to despise BO.

I chose to not watch it, to not DVR it, or ask anyone what he said.

I do not feel like this president has done good things for this country. I feel he has lied and cheated and made things much harder for working class Americans and poor Americans. I also think poor people are poorer by far and in much worse shape than they were before he took office.

So I don't care what he has to say, I would think what he said was opposite of reality.

The only thing I do think he did but failed at was help poorer people have medical care. He went about it completely wrong.

Poor people can't afford to pay insurance fees. Poor people are already spending every penny of their money on food, especially since that food stamp increase was allowed to die off, the poor needed him to extend that or make another to take it's place.

Poor people cannot afford to pay for drug testing, the states that have done this are paying more than they ever imagined to fix their mistake.

You don't go to work and they pull you aside and say "Hey, your name got selected to take a random drug test...that's going to be $39.95 and you can't go to work until you pay it"...of course not, your employer pays it.

I don't care if they drug test every American in the world but if they make one pay for it then each and every person that is required to take a drug test has to pay for their own too. That's fair and not discriminatory. Poor people can't afford to pay out of pocket for something like this.

He advertises he fixed mortgage issues and he wants people to keep their homes but in reality those refinances are so full of red tape that no one, hardly even attorney's can help a family actually get lower monthly payments. Even legislators can't understand the ins and outs of this law and can't help anyone figure out how to save their homes.

People that have lost their sources of income to illegals and their careers that aren't needed anymore, they don't have a market for Realtors nowadays. Houses are picking up slightly then they go back down. There are million dollar homes for sale in my town, actually were on the market a couple of years ago for $999,999 and now they are on the market for $399,999 and not selling. Acres and acres of land with a 5 bedroom home, 6 bathrooms, triple car garage, and an out building that could be maid quarters, mother in law apartment, or an art studio...not selling for 1/3 of of it's value just a few years ago.

People are losing everything while this president goes on lengthy holidays and shows off to kids about how they should be telling their parents to buy them healthier foods, sorry! I can't afford to buy that stuff, we have to pay bills and buy Great Value Mac and Cheese with Rodeo hot dog wieners 3 nights of the week so we can have a meal that is less than fifty cents per person.

I don't really care what he says anymore. I think he's misguided and sadly lacking in life experiences to do anything for American's. That's why people who have not struggled and done without food or shelter cannot even begin to imagine what their choices as politicians do to those that are effected by the laws they work on and sign into law.

There are no jobs for those losing their jobs. People are walking the streets asking for any job they can get. They want to work if they can. But they can't find anything because we've been flooded by people coming into this country and taking over our communities. It's not right and I can't wait for someone else to come in and try to fix all that this president has done to our country and broken it.

A president must show respect for the office in order to receive respect from the people.

FWIW, I don't hate anyone. It is odd to me that anyone who disagrees with our president is called either a racist or a person full of hate for him. I don't like O's policies and I don't like his "transformation" of our country. Don't kid yourself. What you see IS his transformation and is not the result of others blocking his phenomenal policies.

I voted for Mr.Obama twice. I think it is grossly rude that people call him weird names like BO - yes it is great that we live in a country where we CAN unlike other countries where we might disappear in the night for disrespect to the leader - but just because you can does not mean you SHOULD.

I think there are lies, misinformation and party lines out there that get spouted not based in fact AT ALL.

Housing prices are coming back up. FACT.
Unemployment is dramatically improved. FACT.
(And yes that includes numbers of people who have dropped out of the work force and quit looking).
More people have health insurance. FACT.

Me personally? Since this president: 1. My husband went back to school and changed careers using the 599 grant that went into effect and is now a CPA earning 2X what he did before. 2. We were able to modify our mortgage and cut our interest rate drastically so we now pay 35% less per month. 3. My whole family has health insurance now - for 2 1/2 years me and hubs went without. 4. My kids are doing great in school, my life has not changed for the worse.

The gas prices have nothing to do with the President. Republican or Democrat - that's a fact. Do your research people and find out why gas prices rise or fall.

Let's all stop being puppets and think for ourselves. We do not need to be a divided country.

I watch because it is my job as a citizen to watch, just like it is the president's job to give the speech. I also vote, every time. I watch whether I voted for the particular president or not. I won't bother watching the rebuttal. No interest in the right wing reactionaries.

No I didn't watch it. I was not going to waste my time listening to his rhetoric and how he can't get anything done so he is going to become the imperial supreme being and start doing his executive order fiat.

I have respect for the office of President of the United States. I have absolute respect for our citizens and military personnel. What I don't respect is a person who has no respect for a citizen who doesn't agree with him, which is ME.

I do NOT agree with his policies. I think he is as wrong as a person could be. I am tired of hearing "its Bush's fault". ENOUGH!

The economy, is this President's economy. The unemployment, is this president's unemployment. Increase in welfare, President. Total and complete epic failure of policies. Don't get me started on Obamacare. That is a complete and total mess!

I don't know President Obama personally so I can't say that I like or dislike him. I do know that I don't like his policies and personally, I don't think he would know the truth even with a flash light and a map.

I won't be watching this time--I have in years past. I believe you can be an active citizen and participate in politics in other ways besides watching tv (like writing to our senators and congressmen as well as our local government or educating yourself on your voters pamphlet issues). NPR gave up plenty in what he will be addressing tonight, a lot about executive orders he is hoping to push through since our bicameral appendages of government are more or less headbutting each other.

The state of the union address is a speech about a *supposed* plan, not a guarantee for any direction of the future. I know some of the things I care about, like the Keystone XL pipeline or ceasing drone strikes against citizens in foreign nations or closing Guantanamo already are not going to be addressed, and I don't think he's going to give those areas his focus in favor of the ideas which will be more flattering. I'd rather read the transcript, too, when I have more time and attention; I really don't need to see all of the applause breaks, either.

Too busy. I feel like I should. Kinda annoyed with him these days, but not because I'm worried about socialism. I'm not opposed to a certain amount of socialism.

Back to my busyness.

Personally? I think he sucks as President. Bush did too. The Patriot Act was the stupidest thing he did and the left screamed about it, but it was fine when this president expanded and extended it...guess it's only "GOOD" when the left does it.

i listened to it on you tube this morning while plowing through my reports and more reports. i am a strong supporter of the president and always find myself edified by his contributions. i think he is brilliant and earnest.

I also think that every last obstructionist congressman from either "party" should be summarily fired and expected to live and support their families on minimum wage for a very long time.

No way. I had better things to do than listen to him tell us he is going to dicate this country (did he forget we have levels of Government for a reason??) and do what he wants despite the turn this country has taken. I don't think (or at least remember) a time when the country has been so divided...and he takes the blame for that. So no.

My husband and I are very different in our political views and while he still supports the man, he is disliking a lot of the policies put in place.

With that said, I also have a lot of disrespect and disdain for plenty of people on the Conservative side as well right now. They all need to go.

Isn't it amazing that you can tell one's political leanings just by the news channel they watch? Spoon fed the info and drinking the kool-aid. Preaching to the choir - for lack of a better term.

The news is no longer information. The news is a damn agenda. It's amazing that people actually tolerate that. But nothing like sitting down to the news going, "Yes, Yes, Yessss!"

No, I do not. I can't stand to watch Barack peacock up there as if he and he alone gets to run the free world. It makes me so angry, and has me feeling helpless in the wake of such a Socialist ruler. I can't do it. I do pray for this country though. It will only be by the Grace of God that we are still a prosperous nation by 2016.

Your topic will probably be pulled soon but I wanted to add for those who are "in shock, surprised, ect" about the negative comments posted below. I promise you that people said the exact same thing about Bush. Heck I know several people who said he was satan and evil. Really?!? So I find it funny how it doesn't matter which side you are - everyone likes to blame the opposite side and is reduced to name calling or statements that voice our frustrations with our government. In reality we are all on the same side and the politicians are on the other - both Republicans and Democrats. They are not leaders. They are politicians and behind each one is some company or another politician looking to benefit from their votes which have nothing to do with the betterment of the "average" american.

I have worked for way too many organizations that give these politicians money to buy votes in the last three decades trying to be informed and involved. I tried to become "informed" by joining first a republican group and then a democrat group. Guess what? Both parties have very similar ideas but, and this is a quote from both groups at one point or another - us "sheep need to be able to see a clear difference in the people running for office so we need to create a platform that shows just how differently we feel about the issues even though we don't." I quit following any party after that enlightenment. Oh and my beliefs run along the republican, democrat and even some libertarian ideology - just depends on the issue. I would love a leader who was as multifaceted.

I do have to add though that Obama is the best politician in history. I actually was torn about voting for him his first term. By the second I knew he was just another wolf in sheep's clothing.

I don't because actions speak louder than words. Don't tell me what you're gonna do, show me!

I loved his pledge to reduce gun violence with our without congress. Now we'll see if he actually does. I hope so. Something's got to give. There has been one if not two school shootings just about every other week. It's got to be stopped one way or another-like it or not!

The President is just a figurehead.

I watched snippets of it as I was busy doing other things around the house. It has nothing to do with love or hate for the man, but of wanting to be informed AND showing respect to the person who was elected President of the United States by the majority. Even when people thought the Bush election was rigged, I didn't see the outpouring of hatred and lack of respect for the man the way I have seen it for not just Mr. Obama, but his family, including his kids, which is outrageous as they have no part in this. I know Bush wasn't well-liked and many thought his daughters were an embarrassment with their drinking, but still, people didn't go nuts bashing him on forums and wishing him death like I have seen in some political forums. Stay classy, folks.

I watched it. It is out of respect for this great country and the office of the President of the United States. I don't agree with everything he has done, but who agrees with any past President 100% of the time? This is an observation I made as a child, when Carter was running for office and we had to run a "mock" campaign for our favorite candidate. At age 9, I didn't really get it, so the parents' opinions became our opinions. There was hatred spewed then!
Me and my family are struggling middle class, but not his fault. It is because of poor choices on our part. Not going to blame the president. Yes, our healthcare went up this year thru my husband's employer. About $30/month more. But please tell me what hasn't gone up? Everything goes up, all the time. The price of milk is ridiculous. Gas prices have seemed to have leveled out. Most things cost more. I have to redo our budget constantly, as we live paycheck to paycheck. But my 401K is doing awesome! So I guess you take the good with the bad.

I usually do, but last night I did not feel like thinking. My husband watched it while I tended to my toddler. I voted for him and trust him to be in charge, so I don't mind missing the occasional status report. No need for me to micro-manage. I'll hear bits and pieces for a while yet.

PS. In addition to other silly things that people hold against him, I find just plain dumb to cite him for using a teleprompter. Hearing this complaint reminds me that idiots walk among us. Everybody does that. No president speaks off the cuff at a press conference, especially a SOTU address. They have a whole job called "speech writer" just for such an occasion. The teleprompter works better than reading it off the paper because it allows him to look into the camera--your eyes--more.

I missed it. I love his family being in the position, but disagree with when he ran he was agreeing to anything to get votes. That stunk.

re - unemployment -- don't think the true numbers will ever be known as that game has been redesigned so many times with "rule changes" that nobody knows how to play any more (2nd point - welfare has gone up by how much??)

re - guns -- I don't want school shootings either, but such gun-free zones just make an easy target for any wannabes - and you think those kind of folks will follow any laws on guns ... really....??
