Son Will Only Wear Elastic Waist Pants

I second The Childrens Place. Quality at a reasonable price. My son also prefers elastic waist and to the person who made disparaging remarks about a 6 year old wanting an elastic waist and when will he wear "grown up pants" SHAME ON YOU! Buttons are very difficult for small children and snaps can easily pop open.

They are elastic, I don't see any pockets. There is a button on the lower half for rolling up, but you could snip that off easily.

I love Children's Place for this very reason. My son is a very large just turned six year old and he still wants elastic.

I know we have bought pants from the L.L. Bean in the past that didn't have buttons or snaps for my son, but I think those were cargo pants :-/ You can check it out.
Is there a reason he won't wear buttons or snaps? Can he not do them or do the style of pants bother him?
My son, is 6y/o, won't wear the ones with the buttons on the inside because they sit on his hip bones and they distract him all day. He can't do the snaps yet on jeans but he will wear them and ask for help at school.
Have you asked the teacher to any of the parents at school? Maybe someone there can give you some ideas.

Have you tried Target or Kohl's. My son went through the same thing.

just tell him for school he has to get used to reg. pants.. he will have to get used to them sooner or later.. and the longer you wait the worse it will be. if you don't want to do this.. you can buy reg. pants and bring them to a tailer who will charge you and arm and leg.. to put elastic in and put a velcro closure instead of snap.. i think it's time he learns the uniform for shcool... and he can dress however after school.. like sweat pants.. good luck...

Can't help you with the shopping dilemma as it's been a few years since I've had to shop for a six year-old. But my first question is ... WHY will he not wear snap/button pants? Does he have some difficulty in manipulating these mechanics? Perhaps you need to talk to him and find out why, exactly, he is so reticent to wear pants with this closure. It is possible that he has a lack of strength in his hands and has a difficult time closing snaps or buttons and maybe you might want to consider a bit of "practice" at home.

It may seem a bit cruel but, maybe you need to help him progress from his "little boy" pants into "big boy" pants. If you indulge this issue now, how many others are you going to cave on? Let him know that you cannot find pants for school that do not have either a snap or a button and the two of you need to discuss what to do about an alternative to his prediliction for elastic-only waistbands. After all, how long do you suppose he will be wearing elastic-only waistbanded trousers if he is not helped to cope with it now? When will he move up to "big boy" pants? When he is ten? Twelve? Sixteen? Never?

My daughter who is eight prefers pull on pants as well. I've had good luck at The Rugged Bear.

I'm guessing his school doesn't have urinals? Our son is six, too, and also prefers elastic waist pants. We went through this struggle for a few years. Finally, I just couldn't find any in a slim size for him (hard enough to find slim size!). What helps now is that there are urinals in the boy's bathroom and elastic waist means he exposes a whole lot of himself to the other boys. When I reminded him that at the start of first grade when urinals were an issue, he amazingly was open to trying other pants. Can't do ones with buttons because he ends up with potty accidents, but snaps and sliding fasteners are now on his approved list. You might talk to your son about using urinals and how other pants give him more coverage and see if that does the trick.

Good luck! I know how frustrating this can be and how it's not as simple as putting your foot down and saying no elastic pants.

If not too expensive see if you can get the size 7's altered......let out just a tad. Soon enough he will want to wear what the other "guys" are wearing. I don't blame you for wanting to let him be a comfortable little boy as long as possible! Six year olds are so cute!

Also, you might make a plea to the principal.....
