Help with Hard to Snap Pants

Depending on how the snap is made, if you look into the hole the snap snaps into (usually on the front flap of the pants) sometimes there are two little metal "bars" that go across the inside of the hole to "grab" the snap and hold it in place. You can take some small pliers and pry those apart a little to loosen them and that should help. If the snap doesn't have those, and is just snapping into a hole, you can try the same technique but on the actual metal, or you can squeeze the part that snaps into the hole to make it a little smaller so it will fit better. You have to be careful not to do either way too far or you might make it too loose so it doesn't stay closed. Hopefully that made sense... It wasn't the most eloquent way to explain it...

Gap Kids boys classic jeans have a hook-slide mechanism on the back of a traditional looking snap. They come in slim, regular and I think husky. They also still have the adjustable waist that we all know and love. My 6 y/o boy LOVES them because they still look like "big kid pants" but he can handle them on his own without a problem. (And I don't have to do it! Yay!) Available in stores and I've bought them online when I couldn't find sizes. Go independence!

my son is going to be 7 this month and still can't snap wrangler pants. What we do instead is get the slightly more expensive 20x wranglers that have the regular button. He still have some problems when the pants are new, but if he uses patience and persistance he can ALWAYS do them himself. The new 20x wranglers also have the adjustable waist (which we need, I have scrawny kids and it would have taken forever for him to fit into the regular-no adjust ones).

We also have a very small school here in terry mt. His class has 13 people including him. Thats actually up from last years K class of 11. Our DD who is in K, is the only girl in the class of 11. The teachers said that they would be willing to help until he had the strength in his fingers to help.

Funny as I just had this issue with my son who is four and in Pre K. He can snap but some of these pants are just plain hard to snap. I make him try himself, align the snap to the piece it goes into and push with his fingers. 80% of the time he does it fine. However there are pants that are just hard to snap. As long as I see him try I truly know which pants are hard to snap himself. I don't see why a teacher wouldn't be willing to help out if he comes where it is hard and he has tried. I also get the jeans with the adjustable waist, so on days he is wearing ones that are hard, I loosen just enough he can pull them up and down without having to unsnap or snap himself. I hope that helps! :) The adjustables really are the life saver in the pants as you can loosen them enough to where they won't fall off of him but enough he can just pull them down like elastic waistbands. The other alternative is to just buy elastic waistbands, which isn't a good solution in the long run I realize....Good luck.

Let him wear his pants slightly loose so that he can just pull them up and down while at school. You can practice the snaps with him at home. That's what I do with my preschooler who is 4 1/2.

I have no clue, just a funny story, my son (7) has a hard time with the buttons, in kinder it was no big deal the teacher would help, here just recently I asked him how he goes at school, since I know the buttons on his pants are really hard, even for me. He just explained that he unzips it, finds the whole in his underwear and goes, not need to undo the button, I will be coming back to see if there are any good ideas.

I have absolutely no idea if this will help, but I dabble a lot in paper crafts. One thing that helps paper punches that are hard to punch, is to punch them through wax paper a couple of times. Perhaps this same concept would help with snaps on pants. Just a quick idea you might try! I'd be interested to see if it works! :o)

I have no idea if this would work. My son can't do some of his snaps, either, but he's still at home, so it doesn't matter. Anyway, I wonder if you could rub a little piece of waxed paper on the sticking-out part. Maybe it would wear off too fast, I don't know. But it's a cheap fix if it works!
