Son Keeps Getting a Rash Around Neck...

My son keeps getting a rash around is neck and shoulder area. For awhile it looked like every time he got a tooth he would also get this rash. But now he has all of his teeth and the rash is still here. It comes and goes, and switches sides from left to right. Its not smelly or white- just red and bumpy. He doesn't seem effected by it, I'm just not sure how to help it go away.

What can I do next?

Sounds like heat rash to me. My son has it too, as he sweats quite a bit while sleeping, even though I dress him lightly and keep the bedroom as cool as possible. His pediatrician saw it before and said it is nothing to worry about, just try to keep him cool. It does not itch, unless it is severe heat rash. I used Aloe Vera gel on him last summer when we were on vacation and he had severe heat rash that bothered him.

Sounds like a heat rash to me. Keep him cool and bathe him in cooler water. If he sweats a lot with all this heat (or just has a constant moistness to his neck), try putting some baby powder into your hands, rub together, and then onto his neck. The moister will be absorbed and the rash will eventually go away.

Does he drool when he's teething? Could it be from drool?

I'd try some sort of free & clear laundry detergent, too.

it may be a heat rash, that is caused by the hot weather now that it is summer, since he got one while teething and could have a fever while teething

quick & easy answer: Desitin....the original formula, not the newer creme.

The men in my house use this as a wetness barrier to prevent jock itch. I use it to prevent a yeast infection along my c-section scar. It truly works!

A little bit goes a long way....

My ds had something similar. Cant remeber what its called, but basically it comes from drool, food, sweat and heat. Pedi told us to put small amount of hydrocortisone on it and then protect with aquaphor throughout the day and the twice a day that you medicate it. But only until rash disappears... But continue aquaphor.
