Hi D., my attitude sucks today too so even though I feel parenthood is essentially hilarious, I can't think of a single funny story, sigh.

Several days below zero here in upstate NY is not helping.

I STRONGLY recommend watching as much America's Funniest Home Videos as humanly possible. That always perks me up. (Oh with a few glasses of wine, well beer in my case)

Bird on the little half wall outside my kitchen window.
Happy little chirpy bird.

Cat inside the kitchen sees bird.
Cat jumps onto and belly crawls across the counter, making funny little growl sounds. She is determined to sneak up on and catch the bird.

There is a window in the way.

She does this at least once a day - there is always a window in the way.
But everyday she stalks the bird. She never stops trying. She never gives up.

The bird flutters away, then the cat goes and takes a nap.

Hugs and Love!!!

A funny story from my girlfriend. She was going into the store with her 4 year old son. She did NOT want to have to argue with him about getting anything, so she told him what they were going to buy and that he could NOT get anything else because she did not have any money. As she was writing a check to pay for the groceries, her son LOUDLY says..."Mom, why are you writing a check, you know you don't have any money."

Out of the mouths of babes. Hope this gives you a chuckle. It did me.

My 5 yr old daughter was crying and having a kind of bummed out day and I was listening to my son (who is 6) try to cheer her up...and of course since all of the "toilet" words are SO hilarious to them still... He tells her, "Faith, I'm thinkin of the funniest place ever. There are flying buttholes all over the sky and all the houses are big butts." They literally started giggling so hard that my son was crying... silly kids :)

It is hard to be positive all of the time, but try to count the things that you do have. Maybe a roof over your head, a car, your kids (even if they drive you insane at times :)), food to eat etc. Also I'm not sure what the weather is like in Texas but get outside if you can, that always boosts my mood. And when all else fails, remember 2 phrases: This too shall pass and Everything for a reason. Hugs 2 u!!

One day last week, my 2y/o girl was in a grumpy mood all the way home (45min commute), through dinner, and wasn't interested in playing with her toys. So, I laid down on my bed with her to watch a cartoon and she rolled over and farted--LOUD! She looked at me and just cracked up laughing! I asked, "Bella, what was that?" And she proudly informed me that "Bella farted!" She rolled the other way on the pillow and farted again, and giggled some more... this went on for almost 10 minutes--and had me laughing so hard I was crying! (No wonder she was so grumpy, I'd be upset if I had that much gas stopped up, too!)

Hope your day is getting better! I'm having a bit of a "downer" day, too... Serious case of the "Monday's" for me!

My 2 year old cat likes to sleep on my boobs! When we first brought him home when we was a tiny kitten, he was very comfortable sleeping on my boobs...they are fairly large and he could fit on them! Well, now he's a grown cat and still likes to 'try' and sleep on them! My hubby thinks it's hilarious when he tries...he's a bit too big now!!!

Yesterday, I was giving my 6 year old a bath...I told her she had to clean herself and told her to make sure she cleans her armpits really good. She asked me if she had to clean her legpits too! I couldn't stop laughing! Makes sense tho!!!

I'm a very negative person too...I feel ya! Now that I'm pregnant, I'm trying not to stress about things! And that story was the first thing that came to my mind...my cat is a little obsessive!

This question was from December. I just found it and the first one made me snicker just now (curds/turds). Just click and laugh: http://www.mamapedia.com/questions/13817937514377379841

If I could post the video of my son being a robot, I would. He says he's a bad robot and then I say "Well bad robots do not get treats and cookies from their moms. No way." He quickly changes his mind and says he's a good robot. Funny video. Not so funny when you read this.

As for me being positive - I try to not take for granted the things I have. I have an air conditioner and heater in my house and in my car. Not everyone does, so I'm super-thankful for that. I am able to see and play with my son every single day. Many others have to work full time or have to share custody of their kids. So super-thankful there too. My clothes are clean since we can afford laundry detergent. :) My family gets to eat 3 meals a day. :)

--Julie -- I want to give you ten flowers. That poop thing is HILARIOUS!

Last Saturday was my 4 yr old daughter's first soccer game! Do you know how cute a bunch of 4 and 5 yr olds running around in cleats are?? The best part was when a small group of kids from both teams kicked the ball out of bounds (for the hundredth time LOL) and then kept chasing it clear to the other soccer field next to theirs that had another soccer game being played on it! All of us parents were too busy laughing to stop this group of 5 or 6 preschoolers chasing a ball and in turn being chased by the ref blowing his whistle! That was my hilarious moment of the week =)

My boys are all teens right now. Not exactly the "funny" part of their lives...but people tell me when they are in their 20's they will behave like real people and do more than grunt and sigh.

I have days when I am just exhausted, or really worried about something. I try to go for a brisk walk with awesome music and put a smile on my face. Adding that smile makes a difference.
Then I come home, shower and put on a little make-up and spend just min. or two on the hair and feel like a new person.

If the weather is crappy, I watch Ellen Degeneres in the afternoon, even while doing chores or cleaning the kitchen and dance to all the music she has on. Makes me feel better.

My younger son, the one with 40+ food sensitivities, was recognized at his karate dojo, last Friday night, for having the most heart of any of the kids/adults in his class going for black belt or the next degree of black belt. It's taken him 5.5 years to get this far (going for black belt this year).

Sensei recognized him, in front of everyone - something Sensei very rarely does. It is something that my son will no doubt remember forever. He will know, in his heart, that character matters. That heart and perseverance matter more than anything else. That faith MATTERS.

Life handed him a tough hand and he has played it so well . . . my heart swells with pride and tears for how far he has come. We give all the glory to God, THE ultimate healer. Heaven knows our mainstream pediatricians never helped him much.

D. - hang in there. You are loved and I hope you never let anything steal your joy. God bless.

ps: Thank you for letting me share this.

I hope your day goes better, sorry you're having a rough time of it lately! Here's a couple funny things that happened to me;

We were at bible study the other day, seating arrangement was my mom, my 9 year old, me, the right of me was my 2 year old & the rest of the kids down the row. Anyways, it was at a quiet spot where everyone was looking for a scripture in the bible, the speaker was waiting for everyone to find it. My 2 year old son leaned forward with a big grin on his face & whispers LOUDLY over to my mom; Gwama! I fauted!!!! He just said it so cute & proudly we just could not hold back the laughter! Nor could the 2 rows in front or back of us who heard him! LoL

Another fart story, (Sorry, my kids fart obsessions have rubbed off on me, LoL) Somehow I escaped the house with only one of my children to run a couple hours worth of errands. My 3 year old wanted to come along so I figured it's be a great opportunity for one on one mommy time so I agreed. We made a stop at the bank, we had to go inside. Were at the teller, it's silent (ALWAYS the silent moments that get ya!) My 3 year old farted loudly & kinda snickered. I look down at her I say did you just fart? What do you say? She looks up & the teller is looking at us. She goes MOOOM!! Don't say I farted, you farted! I heard you!! You stink!! That's Gross! VERY loudly! I think the teller (& all the girls behind the counter) might have believed her too! My face turned red quickly & it was silent the rest of the time to the car! LoL

Just a couple oh so wonderful from the mouth of babes moments. :)

I had someone shot a hole in my front double pane (sp?) window with a BB Gun (BB only went through outer pane). Well my Dad works in construction and he had a Glass Guy that ne knows come out and work up an estimate. My Dad called me this monring and told me that my window would be fixed today or tomorrow and for FREE. I was so worried that the entire window would have to be replaced and cost me as much as my home owners deductible. So there are still good people in this world and this made me so happy that I cried.

I hope your negative thoughts go away and you can find good in your life. Hang in there.

D.,

I think you got some good responses from your previous post about wanting to stop be negative. You have to take some of those into action if you want to improve your mindset.

Since I know laughter is good medicine - hope this makes you smile.

My son asked for some icecream..I told him no, I will give it to him later. He turned around and said to me, "But you said that to me already a long time ago. Can later be now!"

I have been trying to (secretly) plan for my son's buddy from school to go to a hockey game with us then have a sleep-over. I didn't want to tell Ty too soon so if it didn't work out he'd be totally disappointed. So, last night I did get a final yes from his parents and couldn't wait to tell Ty! I was SO excited - this is his first sleep-over (other than cousins). As I am telling Ty he just looks at me and says "I already know Mom, "friend" told everyone at share and tell on Friday".

I was happy yesterday that my daughter (almost 5) and I had a pretty good day. She helped me clean up her room and our living room without too much fuss - they were DISASTERS! haha She did really well with taking her toys & putting them away in her room. This is usually a horrible struggle :)

I felt much better to have at least a partially cleaned home! We even went out to dinner and shared a chocolate cake & ice cream dessert. :)

Also happy in anticipation of my husband coming home on leave from Egypt in about 3 weeks! Then we are going on a family ski trip, then down to Florida to see hubby's family, then coming back in time to have our daughter's 5th birthday party. Our 3rd wedding anniversary is also during the ski trip. I think I'm going to be sleeping all the next week! :)

One positive to look for is your blessings. I'm supposing you have a home -- that is a positive!

I have a teenager who has shown me that the only thing he will buy at the high school cafeteria, with the $3 I gave him each school day, was chocolate milk and cookies! So, I said I can't continue to give you $3 each school day and suggested he start making his own sandwich to take to school. Well, Friday, he grudgingly gets up, gets dressed and goes into the kitchen. He started making a peanut butter sandwich and as soon as he put the peanut butter on one slice of bread he paused. "Um, Mom? I have a doctor's appointment today, right? and it's during the lunch period, right?" When I responded with 'yes', he looked crushed. I just told him not to worry, just finish the sandwich and put it in a ziploc bag on the table. And that, most likely, his younger brother would eat it after school.

It was just a time to stand back and smile at his mistake, well, he simply forgot. But it did get me to smile!

Don't forget about getting into the sunshine! Vitamin D will help out a lot!

we went ice skating for new years and my 8 year old said " gee, i didnt expect it to be so slippery!" [we have been ice skating several time before this...]

daughter: Gosh darn it garrett! You exasperate me! (11 yrs)

and when my son was describing how the Jenga tower that got knocked over was not all over the place "But it's still partially intact!" (8 yrs)

Im a preschool teacher too, and here are a few quotes: "i have nipple right here on my butt!" (im pretty sure he meant dimples.) "do you know what happens when a girl eats too much food? then they have babies." These were said by the same child lol

When my son was about 3 or 4, whenever anyone said or did something amusing, he would say "you did that the funny way!"

or if they were really hungry, they (my kids) would say they were starving "to the death" no idea where this came from.

oh, one more: we went to Colorado on vacation and I saw a "moose crossing" sign. i pointed it out to my kids, and my daughter starts honking really loudly. I said "amber, why are you honking?" "Because you said there was a goose crossing!"

hope this puts a smile on your face!
