Hi there! I have an almost four year old daughter who is interested in taking soccer soon. Does anyone have any experience with soccer lessons or teams for children this age in the San Jose area? I'd prefer that practices take place during the week days, as I am home with my girls and like having daytime activities.I'm open to weekend soccer though, if need be. Thanks in advance for your help!

Our daughters play through Santa Clara Youth Soccer. They started when they were 4 yrs old. For the little ones, they have practice once a week for 1 hour and games are on Sat. for 1 hour. I think it is a pretty good league and the girls have a lot of fun.

Also, they have financial aid for those who need it.

My four year old son plays soccer through the CAA (Christian Athletic Association) league. He played in the fall season and is playing again now in spring. The spring season is almost over, but if you wanted to do the fall, I think it starts at the end of August. Generally there is a late afternoon practice once a week and game on Saturday. We have had a good experience with it. I can see a big difference between my son's skill last season vs this one. I don't think it's a perfect league, it can be a bit disorganized in the beginning. However, my son enjoys playing, likes his coach, and likes the team mates, so we're happy. If you want to check it out, google christian athletic association. The website is something like goplaycaa.org, but I am not sure of it exactly.

I know that the YMCA also has a Little Kickers program for the little ones. I have a friend who had a good experience with that, but it is just Saturday mornings. They too have a spring and fall season.

Hi M.,

There are a few that I am aware of the first is:

www.kidzlovesoccer.com

They are a little expensive but they cater to smaller kids.

The YMCA has summer programs for soccer and they also break them out by ages.

The city of San Jose parks and rec department does soccer.

The last that I know of is ssjysl.org

One of these may match what you are looking for.

We love, love, love, Kids love Soccer. It is all about teaching skills and having fun. We sign up through our local rec center (Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation), but there is a kids love soccer website - sorry don't have it in front of me. They have many programs throughout the Bay area.
