Slimfast/Glucerna Type Drinks Without Sucralose

I finally got a job, so yippee for me! I was looking to get something quick and easy for breakfast since I am going to have to get up a lot earlier than I normally do, and I doubt I'll have time to cook. Also, I am not a big eater in the morning, but I wanted to have something in my system so I was thinking about those new Glucerna shakes that are supposed to keep your blood sugars level and help you feel full longer. But, every one I looked at had sucralose which is Splenda in it and I am very sensative to it, so I can't drink those. I have used Slimfast in the past, but now they have it too. Does anyone know of any that DON'T have it? I am not diabetic or anything, I just wanted something easy to take with me. I don't drink smoothies so that's not an option; the yogurt type drinks turn my stomach so those are not good for me either, which is why I have always done the slimfast type ones, they are thin enough to not feel like a smoothie in my mouth. TIA!

What can I do next?

I think that any of the ones like Slim Fast will be made with artificial sweeteners to cut down on calories. The powdered Carnation Instant Breakfast packets (except the ones labeled sugar-free) are sweetened with sugar instead of artificial sweeteners.

A better bet may be to buy whey protein powder and mix a scoop of that with some milk or water. The Pure Protein brand is sweetened with a little bit of sugar and stevia, a natural sweetener.

I am similar to you as well with the blood sugar in the morning and a quickie morning "meal". Have you looked at Boost drinks or even the Carnation mixes to see what they had? I'm pretty sure they are real sugar.

One thing I do, I make a pot of oatmeal, than save it in a tupperware in the fridge for a few days. I have a few days worth of fresh fruit cut up also in the fridge. All have to do is microwave my oatmeal with some ground flax seed in it and add some fresh fruit (strawberries and blackberries are my fav), it's more filling than the health drinks, plus it's pretty fast and healthy, and you control what type of sweetener it receives (honey, stevia, brown sugar, agave...)

Shaklee is the only one I know of that is completely natural in that is has NO artificial sugars, flavors and colors. There are a wide variety to chose from. You have Cinch flavors of Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry and Cafe Latte. You also have the regular protein which is Energizing Soy of vanilla or chocolate. We also have Whey.

I understand you don't like smoothies so basically just add some type of milk to these (I like Almond Milk but you can use any kind) and drink. Make them as thin as you like by putting as much milk with them as you want.

Cinch is for weight loss but people who do not need to lose weight still drink it. Or you can just use the Energizing Soy or Cinch whey.

If you would like to see what it is go to: http://nutritionproducts.myshaklee.com and check out the drinks.

I have a couple of suggestions. One source for great shakes without artificial sweeteners is Betty Lou's, Inc. They are an Oregon based company that I recently discovered. Link to their shakes: http://www.bettylousinc.com/products_category.php?id=1

If you are unable to find shakes that you like and meet your needs, try eating a bar instead. I love Larabars (I get them at Fred Meyer). Personal fave is Apple Pie. Check out the ingredient list: dates, almonds, unsweetened apples, walnuts, raisins, cinnamon. I also eat my fair share of Organic Superberry Acai bars from Betty Lou's - again nothing artificial there. The bars aren't huge, so it's enough to fill the void without making me feel super full.

any of the diet and diabetes control ones like slimfast and glucerna are going to have artificial sweeteners. i'd make my own, using hemp protein powder and raw cocoa powder. sweeten with sugar as needed, just shake or blend 'em up with a water or milk.

You're smart to avoid those chemical sweeteners - they are pretty toxic and you are showing a reaction to them which is good (in that you know they are yucky). There are some shakes you can make easily which are extremely well balanced and full of nutrients, but you can't usually find those in a store. There is a company that provides good follow-up and helps you get great immune support while keeping your blood sugar level. Most of the commercially available things are just buy-off-the-shelf and there's no guarantee of the quality of ingredients. I've had life-changing results since switching to this - haven't been sick in 5 years, have energy to work out 5-6 days a week, got rid of a lot of health issues.

The other thing you can do is quickly make some oatmeal in the microwave - it sticks with you and takes a long time to digest. Use regular oatmeal, not quick oats. Just put it in the bowl you'll be eating out of, add the water and maybe some cinnamon (nice tasting and good health benefits). You can throw in some fruit at the end - a handful of blueberries, a sliced banana, whatever, and a tablespoon of flaxseed oil. While it's cooking, pour yourself a cup of coffee or check your email or throw your lunch together. It takes about 4 minutes to eat.

I do this and then take my shake to have mid-morning so I don't do something dumb like grab a donut. Unbelievable nutrition long before noon!
