Okay ladies..here goes! My 21 yr.old daughter is engaged to a young man in the Army. They set the date for April 2010. She already has the chapel reserved where we are members. We are now looking for venues for a reception where it's inside/outside and somewhere in the Cypress/Katy area. My guess would be probably at the most 150 people, but probably less. Also..any info on cakes, photographers, etc. She is blessed to have a few aunts that will do all her flowers as they did mine 24 years ago and that will save money. If anyone has heard of or been to Coles Country or Lindsay Lakes, I would love to get input on your experience there and the price range. Just looking for great inexpensive ideas and/or facilities that would be affordable without breaking the bank, but would make a wonderful memorable reception. Any info would be so helpful. Thanks in advance!

Clays on Clay and Barker Cypress is a wonderful indoor/outdoor and not to expensive. Also my aunt does cakes out of her house and teaches Cake Classes at Michaels. She has a great talent and love as well as wonderful references. If you are interested let me know and I will give you her number. She lives off of 529 and Barker Cypress/Hwy 6 area.

I don't know about locations but to save money - don't over do the flowers at the church. Everyone will remember the bride over the flowers.

Center pieces at the reception - I bought beer glasses at IKEA. They are way cheaper than actual vases and look just as nice.

Give aways -- think of things people will want to take with them. One friend of mine bought chocolate bars and printed (from Kinkos) a black and white label with the new couples information and their picture. This involves a little handwork but people took them!

My mother-in-law is a wedding coordinator with about 20yrs experience. She did my wedding and it was amazing what she pulled together on a pretty small budget. The name of her company is Budget Brides and her name is Maxine Britton, you can feel free to call her at ###-###-####. A couple things we did to save $$ is I got married in the morning at 11am so I was able to have my reception in a country club for a better rate. I also prioritized what was most important to me. I really wanted an awesome dress, but I didn't really care about professional invitations. I got my invitations at Michaels and had a relative run them off and glued these little jewels on them myself, super cute and super cheap! My mother-in-law also knows a lot of vendors and got good deals based on having a long term relationship with them. Anyway, I wish guys all the best and don't hesistate to call Maxine if you want a great coordinator:) Congratulations!

My husband and I paid for our weeding on or own, at least most of it. The lady that did our cakes was FANTASTIC. We got lots of comliments on the cakes and she is incredibly reasonably priced. Her cakes are top notch and she can do almost anything. Her name is Michelle Fishkin and her website is www.divaofcakes.com If there is any small specifc details that you would like to know about what we did I would be happy to share. Oh, and our DJ was great too. He does this great thing at the reception called the couple's "Love Story" His name is Robert Parvin and I believe his website is www.djsofhouston.com. If that isn't it his company name is DJ's of Houston. Let us know how it all goes. Good luck!!!

God Bless,

Since you already have the chapel reserved at your church, would it be possible to have the reception there too? That would most likely cost alot less than another facility. And it would be more simple to have everything in one place.

We had a Cheerleader banquet at the PineForest Country Club in 2005. Their facility was wonderful.

Be sure to book your photographer NOW. They get booked up a year in advance. I learned this the hard way when my daughter got married in 1999.

I don't have much information on the two venues you mentioned--Coles Country and Lindsay Lakes--but I have driven past them. Coles Country is easier to get to from the Katy Area. It's just off Jarvis close to Barker-Cypress. Lindsay Lakes looks really small. It's on Mueschke road between 290 and 2920. Like I said, I've not been inside either of these, but thought the locations might help you a bit.
